Other than dedicating my whole summer to a few entrepreneurial web-based projects, I've decided to get back into shape - back to the former days of glory.
No!
Better than those days.
As of now, I'm currently weighing in at 135lbs (at a height of 5'8.5") and am back to level 1 in terms of physical shape. For those that don't know, I stopped working out because I fractured my wrist in two places in a snowboarding accident. That was over a year ago, I've only now decided to start working out again, and my wrist is about 66% healed (in terms of range of motion - extension is the problem). I used to sit at 155lbs before everything went downhill, which is a feat for me considering I was always light from my years of track and field in middle/high school and BMX riding.
Here's what I looked like before..
Actually, those pictures were taken about a year before the accident. I was slightly more cut and larger in size before the accident. This accident (January 2nd, 2009)..
More images of the wrist.. + Show Spoiler +
And here's what I look like now, which is very very depressing to look at..
I've only been working out for a week now, but I can feel the power coming back slowly. However, I'm starting on weights that are a small fraction of what I used to be able to do. I went from maxing 245lbs on the bench press to barely maxing 135lbs. Instead of doing 3 sets of 10 reps of 185lbs on the press, I'm now doing 105lbs. Instead of curling 30lb dumbbells, I'm now doing 20lbs. Instead of doing 3 sets of 12 wide-grip (lat) pull-ups, I can't even do 5 on set one. It's all mostly due to the fact that my wrist is hindering me, and I can only blame myself for it healing so slowly.
Here's a quick rundown of my workout..
- MWF is chest, triceps and abs. - TuTh is shoulders, back, and biceps. - Cardio is whenever the hell I feel like it (running or riding a bike).
I probably won't start taking supplements (NoX, whey/creatine) again until I get back into a harsher routine.
Anyhow, wish me luck, guys!

your right arm looked bigger than the left.

I'm just saying.. switch it up every once in awhile.

LOL! That's actually my left arm, but thanks for the advice.

Sad to hear about the accident. Will you ever ride snowboard again?
|
Of course! Though it wasn't as if I was a chronic snowboarder in the first place. It's just a "once or twice in a season with friends" thing. I prefer to BMX, but that's a whole different lifetime that I gave up also when I broke my wrist and had my ride stolen.

Wow your out-of-shape body looks better than my in-shape body, I really need to hit the gym . I'm not overweight or in bad shape, but my nerd body is more in need of tuning then yours is. You look a bit like Jason Bourne, especially in the pictures before the accident!
|
At least your out of shape body doesn't have a slight gut, I am working on getting rid of mine. I used to be in shape though - strength wise pretty similar to your first picture.
|
you were 135 and could max 245lbs? really?

You just gotta put your mind into it and I'm sure you can get in shape easily.
Oh, this is the goal level of physical fitness I'm after..
Ryan Reynolds - mm, such a hunk.

you should skip shoulders and back exercises for more bicep heavy workouts. Just bench and curls.

wow those guys in the pictures look pretty strong.

Most important thing is to make sure you dont deadlift or squat. Those exercises are for meat heads.

Good luck dude. When I first saw your title I was expecting to see something about the "300" workout. I've been doing a modified (aka wussified) version of that workout, and its been working out pretty well for me.
Here's what I'm currently doing. I use a 10 lb weight with these:
50 pushups 30 jump squats 30 back row 50 pushups 30 cowbell 30 back flys 30 spilt squats 30 military press 30 hip thrust 30 situps
I like it because I don't have to use a lot of weights, and I can do it quickly (or multiple circuits if I'm feeling saucy.

I would group biceps with triceps and back with bench... Legs with abs, nobody likes those guys at the gym who have 200 inch chests but their legs are like toothpicks.
|
Best of luck to you in your quest to get back to the gym... about 8 months ago I decided to start working out. I've had great results and I'm really happy. I'm still as slender as ever (131 lbs and 5'10"), but now instead of fat and bone, it's muscle and bone .
