After I take some exams this saturday, I am free to play Brood War for a longggggggg time. One of my main goals after this Saturday is to mass game on Iccup and get B. But another goal I have is to teach my friend nonmoney. My friend has been a Fastest player for a while so he is not new to Brood War. However, he is new to nonmoney.
Out of the three races, he wants to choose Z because he hates Terran and in the few years that he's played as Toss for Fastest, he thinks there are too many Protosses out there and think it's a noob race. So he wants to switch to Z for nonmoney. The thing is, I'm trying to tell him that Z is the hardest race for nonmoney. Should I keep telling him not to main Z or just leave him be?
Finally, I'm pretty new at teaching another person non-money. What would you guys recommend would be the best way for me to teach my friend? I'm a Terran player so I doubt I can give him much specific race matchup information, but I am an experienced player. What kinds of things can I help him on? Also, I have a few other friends who are very good. Would just simply playing my friend a lot help him improve as a player? Would that be the fastest method?

check the strategy forum plenty of good guides in there... then just play alot watch some reps point out mistakes and improve >.<

actually, i'd say terran is the hardest race for nonmoney. terran is all about timing, and the macro and micro for it are about 3x harder than toss. zerg concepts are somewhat difficult to grasp, but not very hard once you get the basics down.

teach him the build orders first of all. then teach him the importance between macro/micro and expanding. i played fastest only on sc1 but learning the build orders and watching players from the day9 dailies helped me transition easily to low money. this helped me place into the diamond league.

I would first teach my friend to not get discouraged from losing. There is a very good chance (if he starts 1v1ing on iccup) for your friend to revert back to money maps.
Race wise i think pre B- , toss is easier than others to use, after C+, it's all very hard. BO are easy to teach, mechanics is not. fastest method is probably your friend play a lot of games vs people slightly above his level, and help him to know what he did wrong if he couldn't figure them out for himself.

Okay, thanks for the tips. I don't think Terran is that demanding when compared to Zerg. TvP maybe, but in terms of the understanding you need of Zerg Macro, I don't think so.

Kinda off topic, but I find protoss harder to play than zerg. With zerg, it was so easy to control the army and macro and besides mutalisk micro, the importance of micro is really small. No real need for spell micro in 2 out of 3 match ups other than dark swarms in late game ZvT. 4sz5sz6sz1a2a3a flank, gg yo.
I find toss way more harder imo.

you sounded exactly like a friend of mine until you mentioned you were terran lol. Anyway, i suggest you let your friend pick whichever race he likes best, you cant force him to play what he doesnt want and it will just decrease his motivation.

ya srsly have him play protoss it'll keep him from wanting to break his keyboard every 5 seconds.

Still offtopic. The hardest thing as zerg is deciding when to make drones or units. Its so tough to judge in tight situations.
In terms of decision making I think from easiest to hardest is: Terran, Zerg, Protoss
In terms of mechanics I think from easiest to hardest is: Protoss, Zerg, Terran
On topic: I really hope you reach your goal to get a B on iccup. It always gives me hope that one day I will B rank when other people do it.

+ he has dts then lol, your favorite unit luckyfool?

Wait until he always loses, then goes back to toss.

Even fastest players acknowledge which race is the noob race.

I agree 100%

the race that's hardest to learn is the one where you have the least fun playing, so as long as he is having fun on his race it should be fine.

Hey prozen, I saw you on a bit yesterday. If you want Im willing to help your friend out, I like helping out new players. Its SCC-GG btw
For new players I think its best they stick to whatever race they are comfortable with, if hes comfortable playing zerg then I would start with zerg builds of his favorite matchup and elementary zerg stuff like ovie positioning and when/how many lings/drones to make, and scouting. Once he has a general idea how that stuff works, smash him and move on to macro
