Anime North, Eastern Canada's biggest anime convention starts tomorrow. It features cosplay, imported goods and whackload of other neat weeaboo stuff.
This will be my third time going, I went in '05 and '07.
The first time I was dragged there by a friend who was big into anime. <<aside: I was told I pretty much HAD to cosplay or else I would be lame, and let me tell you that is absolutely true. Getting fawned over, 100+ pictures taken, pretending to be some bad-ass anime character, easy conversation starter vs. walking around taking people's pictures. I'm glad I was pressured into it, everyone should try it at least once.>> I had seen DBZ and Pokemon (doesn't really count) and had just started getting into Naruto, so I cosplayed as Kiba:
The second time I had become quite the weeaboo and had seen my fair share of anime (Cowboy Bebop, Trigun, Black Blood Brothers, Blood+, Puni Puni Poemi, FLCL, Berserk, Basilisk, Trinity Blood, Samurai Champloo, and I'm sure a bunch others). After throwing around some ideas with friends, we decided on alt-costumes and I ended up cosplaying the same character (Kiba) but as an ANBU (ninja police):
This year I am a little out of the Anime circle. I haven't seen anything recently, so I wasn't sure what to cosplay. Me and two friends decided to cosplay as Final Fantasy XIII characters, as it is both anime enough and recent enough that it hasn't been overdone to death (unlike Naruto cosplays >.< ) I will be cosplaying as Snow:
My costume is almost done, I just need to make 1 or 2 more things and it should be all set. My only hope is that it's not 30+ degrees out like it has been recently, as the trench coat/dress pants/boots can get pretty hot.
Is anyone going to Anime North this year? If so, will you be cosplaying? If you aren't going/in Canada, have you ever cosplayed?

I'm going to anime north but wont be cosplaying, nor have I ever cosplayed.
On the subject of cosplaying as snow, WHY? He's like one of the lamest characters in that game, If I were to pick a costume from FF13 it would have to be the robes worn by sanctum deportees:

probably because it was easy and didn't cost a lot of money

Tbh I haven't actually played the game. My friend was pretty set on cosplaying as Lightning, and dressing up as a group is definitely better, so I checked out the main characters. Hope was a little too hipster and the costume is meh, and I'm not black, which kinda narrows it down. Plus the costume is cool and easy, and didn't cost me too much.

I went to ACen this year (massive 20,000 person con in Illinois, near Chicago), and it was my first con ever. I didn't cosplay, and don't ever intend to, but had a blast. I don't "get" anime enough to cosplay, though I've seen a shitload more than the average person at the con. I don't know. Either way, I had a blast. I took a fair amount of pictures, but not too many. I just enjoyed myself, drank a lot, went out to eat at some nice restaurants with some cool ass people, and enjoyed it. I thought the experience would be really awkward, as it isn't the type of situation where I would normally picture myself, but it was definitely worth the trip (only about 5 hours from my home, though).

goin to AN tmr. i wish there was a way we could identify each other. i ordered my TL shirt but it's not gonna be in for a few days.

For those of you who plan on going to any Con, check out their 18+ panels that typically happen at late night, especially the ones led by people who work in the hentai translation studios. It's just hilarious.

Anyone going to go to the SC LAN? I want to meet some TL'ers there ^-^

Ionno, I've been to it once a long time ago (2005?) I was mad weirded out After that I stopped watching Anime almost completely.
My friend said hes going for the weekend (somehow hes going for free). Everything is cool and all but dressing up as a fictional character and running around the streets, nibbling on food and being overly (and I mean OVERLY) friendly to people you have never met just doesn't suit my taste
Needless to say, I met some okay people there that I'm still friends with today

I'll be there.
There's a Starcraft LAN Tourney slated for noon or so at the Sheraton hotel on Saturday. That'd be optimal for a TL.net meet-up.
