Heh, another common nickname is AfBramistan.
Have you spent much time in Canada? I hope it all works out for you and your family!

Welcome!! I grew up in Brampton (and am now nearby in Toronto). Whereabouts within Brampton? I guess if you already have relatives there they can show you around and stuff. There are sometimes SC events at the nearby Universities of Waterloo and Toronto.

Welcome! (I'm from Michigan, so...basically Canada) As far as the language, if you're talking about Spanish then there are many people here in Michigan that speak it (so I can't imagine there not being any Spanish speakers in Canada). If you weren't talking about Spanish just disregard the last sentence .
Btw, this past winter here in Michigan we were routinely hitting temperatures of 0 to 10 degrees Fahrenheit which is about -10 to -15 degrees Celsius I think so be prepared! (In Canada it can be even worse lol)

he's probably talking about filipino (tagalog)

Welcome! Canada is awesome.
One piece of advice: don't use "eh?" at all when you first get here. Listen and get used to the situations where it's used first; you might sound stupid otherwise. It's not even used often and it's not essential to speaking English.
In Winnipeg, we have a huge Filipino community. I'm sure you'll be fine in Brampton though.
I'm sure you'll enjoy our summer weather. However, you'll need to get used to winter.

East coast is gg live SC games unless you're pulling an all nighter or it's something really important. My friends who went east for college are rarely around to watch SC with me

Canada has both hot weather and many many beaches. Our hot weather only lasts for a small portion of the year though. If you arrive in 3 months then it will definitely be hot when you get here. edit: oh, and you can watch amazing race asia on tv.

Canada is awesome and as already mentioned, Brampton especially has a lot of your fellow brown people so its perfect
And on another note (My trusty one line in tagalog, hopefully I can have a one line exception for the "english only" rule) :

rofl! that one-liner is so out of left field it's hilarious!!
if anyone is interested, he said: + Show Spoiler +Pigs are tired of being eaten
i've only been to canada twice, each time for about 2 weeks or so - but never during winter but i once stayed in new york from dec to feb - although canada is said to be a lot colder
just to clarify, we'll stay with my aunt (who lives in brampton) for a month or so until we find our own place. where we get a job would be the deciding factor on where we'll be staying.
anyway, we plan to spread the love of SC to all my filipino relatives the moment we arrive. i'm sure we can get some of them to join our all-nighters!
appreciate all the replies so far, especially those bringing out the welcome mats! i'm sure we'll miss the philippines so these help!

Yeah, my (Filipino) friend has a theory that pigs started swine flu because they are tired of being eaten. Also, they teamed up with frogs because
+ Show Spoiler +Pagod na ang mga palaka pag experimentuhin
For some reason I wanted to learn how to say them. Also there's some nursery rhyme that basically ended in your dad lying unconscious on the bathroom floor.

Spanish isn't even remotely a language of Canada. I'd go as far as saying Spanish is near useless in Canada unlike in the US.
If you are going to learn a second language in Canada, French would be #1 and Mandarin would be #2, in terms of actual benefit.

I am aware that tong is the sound that crabs make which tripped me out because over here in north america, crabs don't make sounds. Those damn asian crabs need to be stopped.
I'll PM you the nursery rhyme though
