What is there to be confused about, ladder is ladder. Then there's the fact they're shelling out this money because they want people to WATCH the tournament. Players like Day[9], Orb, Idra, and Artosis have huge followings. InControl has been on a TV series, etc. If they only invited the top 16 US ladder players, no one would want to watch, at least I certainly wouldn't.
Nony probably got overlooked because no one knows what he's doing. He doesn't stream that much, I haven't seen him in any tournaments, and he's one of my favorite players. So all the casual SC2 fans that started coming here post-TSL2 probably don't even know who Nony is.
Are you Huk_You from WC3?

so your saying you would rather watch a bunch of famous noobs battle than the best players on the server ?

While you're right that less people would probably watch if it was just the top 16 ladder players, saying that nobody would watch is a gross exaggeration. The high prize pool alone is sure to attract many viewers regardless of the players, and it's not like the top 16 are random scrubs who nobody would be interested in watching. You're spot on about the players being chosen having a big following, though.

He's saying the sponsors probably want to maximize viewers, and the easiest and most reliable way to do that is to invite 16 players who already have many fans/viewers. Obviously all of the players seem to be at least solid platinum level players, I wouldn't qualify any of them as noobs.

famous noobs doesnt discribe the players in this event.

Updated the list with some of the ones who have replied back.
Please note we have not invited a full 16 players yet.
We cannot please everybody.

Really excited about watching this tournament. Should be a lot of fun.

Looks like a cool list indeed, should provide some really good games! Havent heard about Orb or Lumi before, but I hope they can make a name for themselves in this tournement. I will also hop on the White-ra fantrain, that guy is awesome, so would be really great if you could find a spot for him there
Looking forward to see some more of thelittleones crazy games

ohshift i realize this it shouldnt just be top 16 from ladder but cmon ppl are being picked in this purely on there "names" and the smuft tourney was partially based on names too instead of actual skill. like i said im thankful neways and will look forward to the games i just wish some1 would host a decent invitational and invite more of the right ppl and less of the wrong.
ps: a lot of ppl on this i agree with but few dont even deserve to be considered becuz there just going to get romped

Husky, our sponsor, and myself are still in the process of evaluating the current invites as well as remaining spots. Some players on this list were at the request of our sponsor, and others were hand-picked ourselves.
As stated previously, the invitation process will be ongoing over the next week or so. This means we still have several open spots for the tournament. We are doing our best to accommodate as many players as possible while still ensuring an even distribution over regions/teams/etc.
Also note that if you are not invited for this tournament, we do have plans to host more HDH Invitationals in the near future. There's only 16 slots people, not everybody can be satisfied!
Thanks

Hmm, I will only be bothered to watch orb's games if we get a mic on him to hear the rage and imba complaints if he loses.

If you do an invitational based on skill instead of name recognition, why bother calling it an invitational? You might as well have qualifiers instead.

You have personalities people know and can relate to vs unknown players, even if those players are at the top of the ladder. ELO isn't the point here, entertainment is

TheLittleOne aka Liquid`TLO aka IPS.Radio Confirmed!

it just gets better and better
Hopes that White-Ra, Louder and Mondragon also gets invited ^__^

I would like to see some of the new top players play just to see what they can do. for example TLO wasn't really known until after the TLI.

I love all of these people that are hoping Euro players get invited to a US server tournament.

Although the tournament will be played over USA (North American) Bnet servers, we are making this a global tournament. Players who were invited that do not have a USA bnet account will have to find means of acquiring one. (We imagine this shouldn't be too difficult).
We do have a backup plan in case foreign (outside USA) players cannot find an account in time.
Its our hope that eventually Blizzard will have some way to unite all regions/servers, but as for now this is the best we can do.

I stream a lot. Why wasn't I invited? Just kidding. I work too much to do stuff like this. =( I hate having a night job.
Good luck with the tournament! Just ignore people that are angry their fav. player wasn't invited. I got the same shit for when I did the JSI. It's YOUR invite tournament. So don't feel pressured.
