YES!
I am now officially D+ (I'm SquirrelZerg on ICCUP)! The road was long and arduous BUT I PRESERVERED!
Started playing somewhat competitively around a year ago; my buddies played and so we'd play at least 4-5 nights a week, even everyday sometimes (not much else to do when you're a bunch of nerds on coop who love SC - WATERLOO REPRESENT). They were pretty good (at least compared to me) and rolled me every game. Eventually as we played I started getting better and winning games.
My first ICCUP season was not that pretty; but at least I got used to other builds; we'd play pretty standard (other than this one friend who always bunker rush into proxy fact 1 vulture into 2 port wraiths tvz me). So playing on ICCUP was a big "WTF" for me. Lots of weird builds and timings.
Second season was better; I had a pretty good winning score, but us friends played so much that I rarely got time to play ICCUP. When I finally decided to buckle down and play the season ended.
I felt like I was D+ skill; I mean, my buddies were D+, and we were around the same skill.
And so this season started! I got to 1500ish in a weekend. After a while I looked at my stats. 3-4 of my losses out of 8 were to C- and a bunch of others to D+. I could've been D+ already! I finally found some time today and played some games. I was at 1750 today.
Beat a protoss first, not too bad, I remembered to make lurkers and he forgot obs; 4-5 base zerg from there. Second game vs a terran. A D terran with some micro! My muta control wasn't good and I did little damage. His first SV/tank/mnm push came. I had 6-7 lurkers and all my muta at my 6 on FS, and I flanked him while his mnm went into my nat and his tanks were still there. Afterwards it was simply macro. 1980! I could smell it, and my hunger was even worse as I hadn't eaten dinner yet.
Then I promptly lost two games. One to a terran after I played terribly with my mutas and burrowed my lurkers at my third wrong (so he got up a bunker -_-). Then I lost to a protoss after I amoved my entire army into his fourth; my army would've slaughtered his army if it wasn't for choke+storm. I should've known better.
Then I played another protoss. Lag was bad, but he had no canons so I went 3-hatch muta; unfortunately that building warping in at his min line was a pylon not a canon so my mutas did nothing after it failed to die. I did get his first reaver afterwards though though. I macroed and kept him on 2 base the entire game. Finally at the end he asked me "Highest rank?". I said "D" and he said "I must be really noob then". He wasn't bad either.
I felt soooooooooooo good! D+ too! Now maybe I'll stop dodging zerg...

lol congrats on breaking out of D

Good job, the last few points you need to up your rank will always be the most painful, lol

Hehe, I remember at the start of the season, I was something like 9-8 and 7 of my 8 losses were to C or higher in previous seasons, and the 1 D+ had an Australian flag so I just assumed he was Korean

Congrats! I wish that iCCup would actually try to make it so that mac users weren't kicked from games 100% of the time.
edit: I get kicked from b.net sometimes too.

I just reset my scores of D+... Last five games were 0-5. I got pissed, and reset. Then I went 0-3 on my record, hahaha. However, I'm back over 1000 with a whopping 2-3!

Holy crap, me too! I hadn't played in two weeks, and I was around 1300. Started playing again yesterday, and I beat a couple of people real nice. I was 1900 or so at the start of today.
Lost a game against a Protoss on Desti because I don't know how to play mid/late game TvP on Destination (now I know, though. You have to take the mids and turtle like a madman). Then I beat a Zerg on Fighting Spirit because he did 2-hatch muta, I did Fantasy build, and somehow, miraculously, my goliaths and Valkyries were out in time. He suicided every muta into my natural and gg'd. I then played against a protoss on Fighting Spirit who went 2 base Arbiter, and I'm like, "WTF, how do I deal with two base arbiter?" and lost after two recalls, promptly losing my D+. It's okay, though, because my next game was against a Terran who tried to BBS me, but he sent two SCVs to build barracks in the center, two more to scout, and one was building a supply depot in the main, so for a good portion of the game, he was mining with three SCVs total. I go 1 rax 1 fact, and somehow manage to hold it off.
We're D+ buddies!
I don't know if I can climb up much further, though. All the D hosts boot me, and all of the D+/C- hosts seem a lot better than me. I guess I don't feel very D+, unlike you.
And I feel like more Zergs dodge mirror matchups than the other two races. Speaking for myself, I love TvT. I dodge Koreans, though. Actually, I only play Koreans with a number that is not 0 in the units digit, because I've run into too many stats reset Koreans that have nice, even ratings like "1130" or "1600"
Race you to C-

lol all your games vs koreans are losses xD
|
Congrats man, Always a significant jump Can't wait till I can see you with the yellow icon :D VERY IMPORTANT pro-tip: DONT FORGET OVERLORDS!!!
|
cograts man. pretty pimp that you broke out of D as zerg.
|
You can play me now! I can't find any non-korean D+ players who are willing to play on a map other than python.
|
no offense, but you have an awful lotta posts here to just be D+ . I'm almost got c- last season when I was still really new here (I've only had the game for about 6 months, but got (kinda) serious in the only last 4).
But congrats man, Honestly, I think to stay a solid D+ makes a decent player.
If you want a practice partner, I really like to work on my PvZ.

@DTK: Haha I'm a bit scared to play right now. Want to bask in my D+ glory for a bit longer before I take the plunge and try to play higher. Race is on!
@Iazz: Yeah T_T. I thought I was winning against one toss. Then suddenly giant army into GG. I don't feel bad about losing to koreans though haha.
@apex: Hahaha yeah no worries. Alot of those posts are live report posts anyways. I think if I played consistently on iccup I could've gotten to D+ with a losing record but I play with my friends almost all the time - the four of us play TTPZ so it works out nicely. We'll see if I can stay D+
Thanks everyone!
If anyone wants to play /f me. I'll be on at night Canadian EST time, usually 9:30+; if you wanna practice with D+! zerg feel free to ask; though most times I'm playing with buddies I'll ditch them to play against new people haha.

Grats! Keeping D+ will be easier then getting there, at least thats how it was for me In contrast, getting C- is a lot easier then keeping it
|
Don't be scared of losing your D+. If you are, you will never, ever have the opportunity to reach the illustrious yellow ranks.
Honestly, going from D+ to C- was way easier for me than going from D to D+.

Getting out of D is basically an exercise in learning how to scout and defend every single kind of cheese build - congrats on making it out. I think that you'll find that if you have a good understanding of the game and the maps, getting from D+ to C- will be much easier than getting from D to D+

I made it to D+ with a positive record this season. Then I went on a 7 loss streak, mostly to cheeses.
I just lost a game to 3 hatch lings. I felt like bashing my face into the wall.
Seriously, defending cheese is a super important skill. Only there is no way to defend dark templars besides ALT+Q+Q.

Haha, I think zerg have it a bit better with respect to cheese. I play pretty safe most of the time; overpool, 12 hatch only on 4 player maps. I worry about bunker and probably mass sair-DT/reaver play. Mostly DT's since D players usually don't have great reaver micro. I have never seen 2 port though someone tried some sort of weird greedy vulture into expo, no AA build which got owned by 2-hatch muta.

The rank D is a pit of cheese and rotten plays I just resetted my stats today and I had 4 all-in hydra breaks attempted on me in a row (I play terran btw).
Is it just me or are the cheesing D's these days getting more bm? they all ragequit on me (if you watch some of the SCII streams, its just like those bm guys who are like "omygod you suck so much go learn to play yo momma" before they get rolled by gretorp or w/e.)
I found that there are a lot of more dedicated D+s, and a lot more who are trying to get significantly better so you will have a lot more practice partners from now on if you're nice!

Congrats mannnnnnnn! D+ is a huge milestone for your dedication and hard work! Hope to see you @ C- soon dude.
