Starting yesterday and carrying over to today, every time I have played a game of BW the game has crashed. This involves the screen locking up and being completely unresonsive to any input (Alt+F4, Ctrl+alt+delete, etc.). This only occurs while playing an actual game, it has never happened in a menu (This has happened to me seven times over the past two days, resulting in 2 ICCup losses T_T).
System specs:
Windows 7 64-bit Intel Core 2 Duo P8400 2.26 GHz NVidia 9800M GTS w/ 1 GB GDDR3 4 GB DDR3 RAM
Tried: 1. Reinstalling Broodwar 2. As recommended in the thread found when I searched for this, ran it with a batch file that set affinity to 1 and killed explorer.exe 3. Running without a launcher. 4. Updating drivers to latest versions. 5. Running in compatibility mode for Windows XP SP3, as well as most of the other compatibility options.
None of these has worked so far.
None of these worked. Have not confirmed if this is an issue with internet games vs. lan games. This all happened unexpectedly without any major system changes that I know about.
Anybody have any idea what's going on?

Windows 7 specific bug, really frustrating. As far as I know the only solution thus far is to run it in windowed mode, which does work at least from what I've heard and noticed myself. Happens with a lot of old DirectDraw-games in W7 apparently, hopefully MS will get around to fixing it at some point soon.

Was this introduced in a recent patch, or has this happened for the entire history of Win 7? If the latter, it would be strange because this has only recently happened (i.e. in the last two days).

I've had this problem before, what was causing it in my case was having Winamp open in the background.

I get that kind of crash on Windows 7 when I listen to music while playing. Try turning off Winamp or whatever you use.

I am not entirely sure to be honest, but from what I've read it would be very illogical if it had to do with any BW patches, as it supposedly is related to DirectDraw, which is related to the basic game coding as far as I know (someone tell me if I'm incorrect). What we are hoping for is either for MS to fix the glitch by making sure that W7 can not attempt to use the DDraw buffer at the same time as other applications, or someone to make an application to bind the DDraw to Direct3D instead.
Edit: Here's a link to the MS answers forum that is usually posted in threads about this, squall_leonhart has been talking about fixing it himself if MS doesn't, but haven't heard a lot more since then: http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/vistagaming/thread/4e83dac8-8d4d-4dad-9f1d-e08fa2fe1e48

have the same problem, but W-Mode works.

W-Mode seems to be working so far, thanks guys.
Hopefully Microsoft fixes DirectDraw (Or Blizzard upgrades SC1, but the odds of that are slim to none).

Windows 7 is just not compatible for a lot of things. Like GTA SA, trying to play it but it won't f-ing start. Crashes when I tried to go to the menu. Pissing me off, but I never had any problems with SC besides the color bugs.

Try downloading the client from battle.net. Login to your bnet account, put in your SC key, and download that client.
I used to have the same issue. Screen locks up, no input is accepted, but other applications seem to continue running fine (AIM, WMP, etc). Ever since I reinstalled SC with the bnet client, I've been bug free, despite my Windows 7 + Multicore processor combination.

I tried this, and unfortunately it did not work for me at least, the game still crashed when I tried leaving it on for a longer period of time, which to me indicates that it very well could crash with the same frequency as it does with a normal installation.
