I'm friends with a guy named Shael Riley, a nerd extraordinaire with a decent amount of musical talent and a penchant for combining chiptune with pop/rock. His latest endeavor, Shael Riley and the Double Ice Backfire, has put out a song that is skyrocketing on indie music playcharts.
The song is called "Asian Kids Have All the Best Moves" and you can listen to it over here. It should be the second song listed, it'll just stream in your web browser if you click on the play button there.
There's no money involved, you can play the songs without registering, there are no ads (or at least I don't see any, thanks Ad-block Plus!) and the song's kind of silly. Check it out if you would and let me know what you think. I'll be sure to pass it along to the creator.
It's decent. Nothing really special, but very catchy and it carries potential. I say nothing special meaning that it is stylistically indistinguishable from other artists that are musically talented but not groundbreaking. Lyrics are funny.
EDIT: Sweet that you're friends with the dude. He's got a shot at fame I suppose.
I don't particularly like it, found it boring... maybe I should listen to another song of his? but I guess since you linked that song you're kind of suggesting it is his best work?
As the title is posed (kind of) as a question "The Next Big Musical Hit?", I will have to respond don't think so... but these crazy kids these days... who knows.
I'm not totally familiar with Shael's music lately. As far as his best song, I'd say that would be his work with his other band, Grammar Club. I don't know if you've played Street Fighter 2: HD Remix but a website called ocremix.org did all the music for it, and the devs chose to use this arrangement of Zangief's theme, mins the vocals. I link you now the vocal version because people seem to like it more with vocals. Shael's band mate Beefy is the one singing, I believe.
EDIT: I titled it thus because of the popularity of his single on the indie music site. He's usually too nerdcore to be considered for mainstream appeal.
