yo yo yo this is a laptop question to the masses, you wanna debate ati v nvidia? blow it out yo asses, gonna get an acer for sure, hope the graphics quality isn't poor, cos i wanna do some gaming, get on my mount and start blading, applied for beta for warband, gotta wait for an email WAIT FOR AN EMAIL completed mass effect 2 by the way, ending quite abrupt and pretty gay, my fucking tali died MY TALI DIED garrus and tali kicking it old school BUT THEN MY TALI DIED MY TALI DIED had to do second playthrough, flying round helping out all a my crew, was fucking mans up on tekken 6, busting it jin - nerfed hopkicks, sadly though the HDD got corrupt, so now i can't play anymore
Acer Aspire 5536g £400 AMD Turion X2 Dual Core (RM-74 2.2 GHz, 1MB L2 cache) 15.6" (Acer CineCrystal, 1366x768 HD, High Brightness) 4GB RAM possibly DDR3 ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4570 with 512MB Dedicated RAM http://www.saveonlaptops.co.uk/Acer_Aspire_5536G_625142.html
versus
Acer Aspire 6930g 733G25Mn £450 Intel Centrino 2® Core™ 2 Duo (P7350 - 2.0 GHz, 1066MHz FSB, 3MB) 16" (HD 1366 x 768 resolution, high-brightness (220- cd/m2) Acer CineCrystal™ TFT LCD, 8 ms high-def response time, 16 aspect ratio) 3GB RAM DDR2 NVIDIA® GeForce® 9600M GS with 512MB dedicated Memory + Shared Memory Plays Blu-ray
I'd like to use it for some gaming as well, not get my dick out and splurge Crisis full all over it but fantastic enough for games such as Mount and Blade and some other stuff, knock me the chances for SC2 while i'm here please.
Both look blue, pretty nice blue. Latter laptop less batty powie and slightly heavier

if you wanna game, buy a desktop. Gaming laptops are not worth it, I know this from personal experience.
|
i'd go with nr.1... but wait for some experts to confirm (:

aye thing is i have nothing to game at the moment. Nothing on PC is coming to mind apart from Warband expansion for Mount, i barely spend any time in my room and its also ziemlich kalt. These gfx cards are capable of playing MW2 on maybe medium/low which is fine for me and if SC2/D3 can't run on in it then i can always repair my computer and give it some more pylons
which laptop is better? People seem to prefer the 9600m GS over the 4570 but i've seen that 4570 gives better results for gaming? Also the processers, i read that the P series is much more energy efficient and i think it will reduce the chance on the laptop getting so hot on my lap that i panic because i think i have soiled myself like a playa
|
Yes, i had to make the same choice, but the P processor, is way more efficient. So i keep recommending the 2nd one. Its up to you, unless you really want DD3 memory maybe ?

Holy shit that Asus is good! GTX 260 M and 4gig ram for less than 1k? On a laptop?
Well, the screensize is small and the processor is only 2.1ghz but still... very nice.
|
You do realise that the speed of a processor should not be directly measured by "Ghz", right?
But OP, if you have the money, buy that Asus laptop. It's ridiculously cheap for what it is and it will run anything on max on that resolution for a looooooong time.
|
If you have the money I strongly recommend the Asus g73. 1900x1080 hd display, i7 720 qm processor, ati mobility 5870 gpu, 8 gigs ram, 1 tb hd.
Highest spec notebook for $1.5k

take your budget and go here: http://www.xoticpc.com
best place if you wanna get a decent laptop than can run games imo
|
Dont get centrino, it has all onboard memory stripped from it.
|
Option 1 is superior. Nothing wrong with Acer btw, they just get a bad rap since they're generally a budget type of manufacturer.
|
May I ask how exactly option 1 is superior?
The only possible thing is higher RAM (which is, for the better part, not utilised by the 32bit system which will be installed). The processor is slower, the graphics card is far worse and the screen is smaller.

As for your options, I don't know which is better, but Acer is good from what I know.
I do like your rap though.

Thanks for all the replies, i've been looking at laptops for awhile now and mans be tripping.
Ideally my budget is around £400 - £500 and i don't want an uber gaming laptop (not that i can grab one at this budget) but at least be able to play games.
That xotic site looks pretty good, it's been awhile since i looked at the exchange rate but the first lappy falls in my price range comfortably. ATI 4650 looks pretty damn good, read good things on it. How does it fare vs 9600GT? Sick site though, i'll have to finalise my decision, looking at this:

Probably bump up the processers to T6600 and hey Presto! DELIVER MY SHIT

Thank you jesus for this thread.. I've been wanting to buy a laptop for the longest time. Keep the suggestions coming, Im also in the same price range
|
Hmm... Next week I'm buying a laptop too but in a bit higher price range ($950). Samsung r580 with core i5, 4GB ram, 500GB hdd and GT330 graphics. Serious pwnzor for this price but I want it to serve me for at least 5 years.
Your choice looks very nice though.
Edit:
Here you can read some more about it (your Acer choice). A really nice and professional review.
