There are a few Shanghai related threads but theyre kinda old so here goes with my request.
I AM GOING TO SHANGHAI! I am rediculously excited. I have never even been outside the Americas. I will only be there for 4 days on a buisiness trip with my boss but I wondered if anyone had any tips or ideas. Any musts?
BTW I am an architect and plan to document my trip through drawings. I hope I actually have an oportunity to do this properly considering I'll be working there. I will post my impressions/sketches of the whole thing here. Arriving this sunday- departing on thursday.

Definitely stop by the oriental pearl tower. It's the really pointy building with spheres. Tallest tower in Asia. Stop by the The Bund, really pretty buildings. Walk on nanjing road, it's a common tourist attraction and really nice at night.

I don't doubt that with the amount of good liquor and international horny teens floating around.

Visit the Bund. Visit Yu Yuan gardens. eat some xiaolongbao. Eat some shenjian bao at Xiaoyang's. Go clubbing on one of the nights.
|
Go to the Cheng Huang Miao. Get some Xiao Long Bao, some sheng jian bao. GO to the 6th floor of New World Emporium in Renming Guangchang and there's a little ice rink you can take a shanghai chick you pick up along the way. Other than that... szanghae is way cool
|
Be aware that everyone there speaks a dialect called shanghainese that is totally different from mandarin. Also it's always raining so bring an umbrellla. And it's so humid it's ridiculous. Also get xiao long bao like the guy above me said

It's winter right now and it's kinda cold <9 degree celcius. Places to visit = Bund like ppl have said and oriental pearl tower and the region around those 2 places AND like someone else said Nanjing Rd and the surrounding area, near the Shanghai Opera House is good too.
If you want to club, ANAR, babyface, california club, MUSE, DKD and M2 are awesome

that one nightstand rule sounds pretty promising Hi there! I'm staying in Shanghai as well. As some guys above suggest, you should definately pay a visit to the Pearl Tower(Shanghai TV tower). If you want to go to the Bund, go there at evening its way more beautiful in the evening, but dont go there after 10.30pm or the lights will be shutdown and you will see nothing. Taxi price is reasonalbe during daytime, but from 11pm it get more expensive. Even without some basic Chinese you can still use the Subway. Shanghai subway is one of the best in Asia so you should be able to get to most of the places in Shanghai by subway. When you buy things on the sidewalk, always bargain. If you want to enjoy some clubbing, I recommend Muse, or Richy, or you can go to Xiantiandi(a small quarter with alot of bars and restaurant and people there speak English). Try Chinese food, its everywhere. You should definately try the hotpot though, very tasty during winter. I'm having my final exams this week, but if you find it hard to go around, just PM me, if i can manage my time i might be able to give you some direction. Some useful Chinese: Thank you : Xie xie Sorry: Dui bu qi How much is (this)?: (Zhe ge) duo shao qian? Too expensive: Tai gui le Hello: Ni hao Goodbye: Zai jian.
