+ Show Spoiler + The magical thing about it is if you don't like it you don't have to watch it. But for the record futurama(at its prime)> south park(at its prime)>simpsons(at its prime) > family guy(at its prime) with the simpsons and family guy swapping when you consider their worst seasons. The life and times of Tim deserves an honourable mention even if its not a big enough show to get ranked.

The people who whine about FG must have seen too much of it to be anything but CLOSET FANS. Yeah, I said it. You're trying to show everyone what ironic hipsters you are, but you just LOOOOOVE it. You won't smile or laugh because it's not clever enough for you, but YOU WANT IT. It makes you all tingly and emotional in ways that you can't fully understand but crave for anyways. In short, it's not called rape if you come back for more again, and again, and again. I've seen 80, maybe 90 minutes of it (in various fragments of episodes)... and always ended up watching something else instead. Not my thing I guess.

Hmm, I don't think I've read about it on this website but that's now the point. Look it up on wikipedia and go watch it instead of rating various cartoons like they're the only ones that exist. It's incredibly funny. Also, Harvy Birdman

But fine, i'll compromise, what i described as "what fans like about family guy", is what" 99% of fans i've heard espress their opinion" like about family guy. I wouldn't want to generalise.

Other than that, the formulas, and lack of follow-through (which some might consider a great thing, because it ends up not being as preachy as the Simpsons or South Park), it's a rather decent show. It has some great bits, for the most part is recyclable garbage, but hey, we live in a world where there is this magical thing called "other channels" and "the internet", in which if (like me) you don't really like something, you can just find something else. The people who whine about FG must have seen too much of it to be anything but CLOSET FANS. Yeah, I said it. You're trying to show everyone what ironic hipsters you are, but you just LOOOOOVE it. I don't think you've seen enough of it to make such a detailed analysis... also if you didn't even watch some episodes from start to finish you will have a skewed view. I'm not saying you have to go watch it right now and love it but don't say negative things about it from your brief experience with it. Also, their musical bits have many bad things you can reasonably say about them, but they also have man good things that you don't seem to be aware of. There's nothing there that hasn't been done far better far long ago imo. Family guy is (still) on the air for the sole reason of it's zany sketch factor. But fine, i'll compromise, what i described as "what fans like about family guy", is what" 99% of fans i've heard espress their opinion" like about family guy. I wouldn't want to generalise. Your experience with family guy fans doesn't bother me since I'm not really trying to defend family guy fans. However I'm not convinced that you 'get it' and simply find it to be crap... if you could somehow justify the stance it might be different... but I have a feeling it is just unjust bias for whatever reason. I don't agree with this... if you are far from an intellectual then you won't get family guy... and you also want to be wordly to get all the references they make.... I don't get them all so sometimes I drop a question into conversation with my parents to find out who such-and-such is/was.

The reason family guy is funny is because it does skits that are close to real life situations and portrays them like a lot of people would if they had the resources to do so. It also draws on observational humor that I'm sure the vast majority of people use at least once daily between their friends. It's fucking funny cuz it does jokes on things that no other show does. Just like South Park, The Simpsons, Futurama all have their own charm Family Guy is a different comedy show. Like honestly, what other show is gonna have the cookie monster put into rehab trying to light a spoonful of cookie dough in the bathroom. Come the fuck on. If you don't like the ' vehicle ' in which the jokes are delivered then boo fucking hoo, DONT WATCH IT.

Well, yeah they make a lot of references, but you just have to be culturally aware to understand references, which is different from being an intellectual. Also, a lot of their jokes tend to be scatological, which don't really require intelligence to understand.

I've never had a high opinion of Family Guy - sure there are absolutely hilarious episodes, but there's too much terrible stuff between the good stuff. I'll still watch it if I see it on TV over many many other things though, so it's not -that- bad.

Neither the 'reference jokes' nor scatological jokes are the reason why you need to be an intellectual to get family guy. Nor do you truly have to be an intellectual, but it generally helps since there is so much subtlety and indirect humor... as satire often is. edit: Ack1027 pretty good point
