(that was sarcasm, in case you guys didn't catch it) hehe I laughed.. I think max is pretty drinkable though, it just seems to lose its taste after like half a glass lol Btw. are there any other beer brands in korea than hite, cass and max? I never found any in the supermarket We have OB also. Hmm... not much of a selection. I know that a pint of Guiness here is about $15 =/ Cafri is pretty decent. Very mild
lol I can just imagine a rant blog from Zatic about how much he misses German beer

Oh yeah thanks for reminding me.
The event was insane fun. We had like 15 people there, and 2 guys as referees dressed in ambulance uniforms with rubber gloves, noting everything on charts and playing all serious. Rules were slightly different from OP, it was 24 different servings. The categories were Premium, International, and Discount. Guessing the brand yielded 3 points, getting the category right 1 point. You also had to give each serving a score 1-10 and give an explanation for the score - both were entirely so people could be laughed at later for misjudging their favorites.
My start was phenomenal, got the first two (Carlsberg and Rothaus) correct and also the 3rd category. From then on I didn't do well at all, especially the international category raped me. I did however rate exactly according to my own previous statements, giving Jever my second best rating and rated all the discount brand 2-4 points (5.0: 2 points, "disgusting"). In the end, I placed somewhere in the mid field.
After the 24 rounds the 3 highest ranking brands were served in a headsup to determine the overall winner. Now comes the big surprise and material for 2 days of discussion that followed. In the headsup, "5.0" of all brands won over Beck's and was thus the clear winner of the test. Still can't believe it.
Efes (a turkish beer) scored surprisingly well, somewhere in the top 10. The most common German premium Pils didn't do too well, Warsteiner and Krombacher both placed around 10th. I think most of the rest scored pretty much as expected.

What the hell are you guys drinking?

As for local patriotism I should include Beck's but I don't find it that special.

Becks? hmm.
Although I know the same beer can taste completely different depending on where you drink it, for example I am personally not a Heineken fan at all. I was at Amsterdam airport waiting for Dknight last year when I stopped at the bar for a few drinks, I asked what they had and the guy said Heineken, I immediately asked what else they have. After a short discussion the bartender mentioned that he gets the same reaction, people refuse to drink Heineken because it tastes terrible back in their own country. He promised on tap, in Holland that I would love it or I wouldn't have to pay for the beer.
It tasted nothing like the Heineken you get in bottles here in Australia, it was actually very good.

i found this "october beer club" near my house which serves really good beer.
oh crap. i googled and it and i think you can only find it in japan. if you're ever in japan and visit roppongi (which is a must) you should stop by there for a drink and a snack. the food there was actually really good as well.

Shock Top is a good American beer. It's kind of similar to Blue Moon which is also damn good. Also here in upstate New York there are a bunch of local breweries and some of them make great beers.. it's a matter of tasting a lot and finding them.

Ask my wife. I'm sure she has it counted and will use that number against me in the near future.

Blue Moon (and the seasonal Honey Moon) was my previous favorite. However, I haven't had any alcohol at all the last few months, until about two weeks ago. Had a Blue Moon or two, and it didn't taste right at all. Then I had a Newcastle, and it was just as good as I had remembered. So New Castle and Guinness would probably be my two favorite beers now.
