Sometimes is hard to socialize when you don't have too many things in common with other people, thus not having something to talk about and that allows you to relate with others. Having some activities in common with others gives you a solid base from which to jump start some friendships.

In the end, in your case, all you need is one good friend. Through him you'll get to know other people automatically and build a social circle really quickly.

I wasn't very social before, then I was, then I realized it's not what I really want, at least not with the kind of people I meet. I enjoy aloneness. I think.

i got over it, but i wont be able to give you advice from my own experience- my solution was not general enough. but i think social gatherings are not the best way to get friends or talk to ppl, it should be something where talking to people is only of secondary importance, it takes away the pressure.
