So I wake up this morning to go online and check out my favorite site of course. When I see my computer that I had shut down was cycling through restarts. wtf I ask myself. Ah and when my computer finally loaded, it t'was a blue screen. So I go into safe mode run system recovery and I'm back to normal easy...too easy. I go online and apparently my friend is having the same problem. He mentions that his whole building at Berkley is having major issues after installing the latest Vista Update. SO BE WEARY MY FELLOW TL-ERS (I'm running Vista Home) of the latest updates from Microsoft. I'll keep this updated as I get more information
Edit: So..if you're having the same problem and/or fear this happening to you I recommend turning off automatic update for a while until more information is out to what's up.
Control Panel > Classic View > Windows Update > Change Setting > Check for Updates but let me chose to Install hem/download Them
Edit2: Problem seems to be with JUST x64 bit machines update name: KB973879

One more reason to go for XP or Windows 7.

Windows automatic update is the first thing I turned off when I got my vista laptop. It's not like anyone makes viruses for vista anyways since no one uses it ;D.

Fuck windows update and it's forced restarting of computers, seriously.

you shouldn't use vista in the first place... and people want you to think like that and use that against you.

I had the same issue and repeatedly had to restore to a previous date. Then eventually it just fixed itself... but still fails from time to time.
It is very very lame.

Eh, I've had this laptop for 2 years and so far it's running smooth. I think if one depends on Windows Update services(whether XP, Vista, Win7, etc) for protection, that person might be in for a world of hurt.
Also, Vista works fine for me. I did some research and messed with the registry a bit, took out some processes I didn't need and now it doesn't guzzle down RAM.

hahaa just gotta suck it up for a couple more months until 7 comes out... Unless this was part of their grand scheme make people hate Vista so they're most inclined to get 7 when it comes out. hmm...It wouldn't be that far off Microsoft to do that...

My max time on vista is 4 hours time to put it off I think, but that's almost worse because then you forget about it.
Id rather just be able to turn it off or be fortunate enough to do it manually.

I have Vista because it came with my Laptop. The only times I had problems with it was after updating Vista itself. Somehow MS managed to make the updater the worst part of the OS. It sometimes launched a Bluescreen on me after reboot, but when I selected "start normally" it worked all fine. Really just weird.
Oh and in the very first week Windows Explorer (not Internet Explorer!) not died on me. It did recover by itself though.

all the evidence tells me once and again that microsoft is a bitch,
How long is vista working now? 3 years? How many people bought it? how many will have to buy win7 cause vista sucks just like win ME before xp?

My laptop came with Vista but I immediately (I MEAN IMMEDIATELY) installed Windows 7 on it. Thank god I haven't been forced with Vista for more than ten minutes.

Am I lucky in that in my two years of running Vista, I have never gotten a blue screen?
(Did have this temporary crash once that lasted like a couple days but fixed itself once. Meh.)
