Hey TL! I've noticed that a lot of you enjoy finding new music (who doesn't?) but aren't exactly sure where to look. Here I will be posting a little bit about a band every day for a year. It will be bands that I listen to, from all kinds of genres. Hopefully you check it out and find something you like. I will be putting new bands at the top so you can easily see the newest stuff. I hope you like it!
Band #6 - Death From Above 1979 + Show Spoiler +Since they were mentioned in the CSS song (I think - don't quote me on that) I figured I'd do them next. A Canadian duo on bass and drums, they more than make up for the lack of a guitarist. DFA1979 has since broken up, and the bass/synth player Jesse Keeler has gone on to form MSTRKRFT.
Band #5 - Cansei De Ser Sexy + Show Spoiler +Now that they've been in an Apple commercial, everyone and their mother has heard of CSS. Their newest album isn't entirely to my liking but Self Titled is really good. The name means "tired of being sexy" - a Beyoncé quote - in Portuguese.
Band #4 - Moonbootica + Show Spoiler +A Germany-based DJ duo. I'm not sure if they sample or write their own stuff but they use different singers/styles in all of their songs. These two songs are decently similar, so be sure to check out some other stuff as they mix it up quite a bit.
Band #3 - Black Moth Super Rainbow + Show Spoiler +A psych-electro group that surprisingly doesn't use laptops or sequencers, BMSR's Dandelion Gum is a good travel and great drug album. The repetitive drone is great either in the background or while studying, and the melody reminds me a lot of Boards of Canada's Music has the Right to Children. If you like it check out their split with The Octopus Project.
Band #2 - Strung Out + Show Spoiler +Strung Out is a punk rock band from California, formed in 1992. They are known mainly for their musical style, which fuses aspects of punk rock and metal to form their primary sound. Amazing band, try to listen to Ultimate Devotion if you can (my favorite song of theirs).
Band #1 - Asobi Seksu + Show Spoiler +Asobi Seksu is an indie rock/dream pop band which formed in 2004 in New York City. Very happy music with an amazing vocalist, I dare you to listen to this and not feel good.

Hmm sounds like a good idea. The first band is not my kind of music, but let's see what the future brings :p
|
Cool idea!
I love Asobi Seksu, but their newest album, Hush, is pretty awful in my humble opinion. The songs drag, are totally uninteresting and just sound completely uninspired. I guess they are going for more of a wall of sound approach and while I love shoegaze-y stuff Hush is simply a huge miss for me.
That said, their first release is quite good, and their sophomore effort, Citrus, is amazing. I highly recommend anyone who likes dreamy, polished female vox to check out Citrus.
Are we allowed to suggest future bands? As you are from Canada you should cover The Rural Alberta Advantage sometime! Their first album just came out and is absolutely incredible. I saw them recently in Philadelphia and they put on a phenomenal show.
Perhaps we have similar tastes in music so I am looking forward to your future blogs.

Suggestions are always welcome, they may not appear for a little while while I check them out, but I love new music recommendations so for sure ^^.
