I am hoping that some of you have read some of my previous blog entries before. For those of of that have not however, i can pretty much sum up most of my luck with women as 'bad' in fact i could safely say that it is borderline terrible.
However today this is not the case. It is summer once again here in Wisconsin and like the summer before i am working as a lifeguard. This year, as it happens every year the life guard staff changed a bit, some old and new appeared, and some left. All was well that first day of work, the pool was quiet- and when i had come into work early that day i was hoping that i could have a relaxing day here at the pool.
Today was the first day that the lifeguard staff was going to get together and do some in water safety drills to prepare for the upcoming swim season. As i was lounging around and waiting for everyone to arrive and change into suits i began to notice all of the newbies.
This year it seemed like there was plenty of new faces around the pool. Thankfully there were plenty of old guards to help out the new ones (thank god) Needless to say, we were just about to begin when a new lifeguard cam sprinting into the office, and giving a hasty apology as to being late. I almost died. This newbie lifeguard who i just had the pleasure of laying my eyes on was a thing of intoxicating beauty.
She had blue green eyes, red hair, freckles- and had a single dimple on the left side of her cheek. She wore her hair long, and in a pony tail- and i can say that i was hooked the second that i noticed her. As the pre plan meeting was wrapping up, i finally got a chance to introduce myself and ask her for her name (which is committed however she will now be referred to as Ginger.)
Now i have been around the pool for quite some time, and this being my 4th year, i am what you could consider as the head lifeguard of the pool. Now at our pool each and every single guard is given a special lanyard to hang our whistles from. Each color designates rank within the pool and the pool system. Now i was never one for awards, and i really didn't fancy the idea of walking around with a stupid colored string on to show how long i had worked at this dead end job.
Instead i decided to trade my lanyard with that of a newbie. I had decided earlier in the year that i would try and parade around the pool as a noobie for as long as possible, until my boss or another Lifeguard ratted me out.
Now this little change happened to help me immensely when i began talking with ginger. She like me wore the red of a new lifeguard, and under this guise- me and her decided to be partner up for all of the lifeguard drills. Now i am not going to go into what was said during this day, however i can just simply say that i was stunned by this witty and charming thing of beauty that had dropped seemingly before my eyes.
I wanted to know more, and i wanted to get to know her as soon as possible. Thank god that everything this year seemed to be going in my favor- it was almost as if my notoriously bad luck was somehow gone! I worked on the same schedule as ginger, and the best part was, that our first full day of work was the very next day. I could barely wait~
After a quick drive to work the next day, i finally had my chance to meet work with and hopefully converse with ginger. Once again luck seemed to be on my side because that day at the pool was extremely rainy. Now this is a good thing for me because when there is thunder and lightning the pool closes for a short amount of time to let the storm pass over. During this time the life guarding staff get to walk around the pool and keep the patrons out of the water, and answer any questions that they may have.
Of course i began to walk beside ginger, and not soon after began to slip into easy conversation with this rather quiet ginger headed girl. We joked, flirted and i spat game like i have never spat before. something must have really worked because i distinctly remember that during most of the conversation- ginger was smiling with her pretty dimple or giggling into her shoulder. I don't think that anything could have gone better.
After that entire day, it seemed that i had finally became 'close' enough to her, that me and ginger could say hi, and generally hold easy conversation around work. This was all going so well for that i simply couldn't believe it..... Until the inevitable. The boyfriend.
Yep
the
boyfriend.
I thought that all was lost- that once again i would be stuck to a summer of simple romance mediocrity and come out of the summer with nothing to show, or no fun to be had. I was almost going to go and drown myself until ginger told me offhand that even though they had dated for 4 years she had broken it off about 3 weeks ago. I came back from the brink- there was still a chance with her!
Day after day rolled by and everything between me and ginger were going better and better. My boss began to notice this little change, and i had more than one of my closer friends tell me that ginger really seemed to enjoy my company. i was thinking the same thing, but at the same time i was still having some doubts about my dimpled friend.
Was i simply the rebound guy...............?
I really had to find this out. So i waited another two weeks (because of the 4 year relationship rule) and decided that enough was enough. I walked up to her one day and decided to ask her on the first big one!!!
i said: "Is there anyway that i could hang out with you outside of work? I was thinking lunch some time."
To which she responded: "Ya i would really like that. When did you want to go?"
Holyshit. There is no way that it could have been that easy. It is NEVER that easy with me.... ever! Trying to shake myself out of my mystified stupor i hastily made plans for a few days in advance. I was now on cloud nine, and flying high. Ginger- a girl that deserves far better than me has decided to grace me with her enchanting presence and join me for noodles some time.
As i was walking out the door that day after a long and hard day getting skin cancer, i hardly noticed ginger leaning against the front entrance. She called out my name- and said the most amazing thing to me.
"Hey i really don't feel like going to home right now, and i am really hungry. Would you want to go to noodles now?"
***What i was thinking inside of my head at this point***
AWWWWWWWW HEEEEELLLLLLLL YA!!!!! I DON'T BELIEVE THIS IS HAPPENING THIS ONLY HAPPENS IN THE MOVIES!!!!!!!
don't fuck this up ben.
***End mind interlude***
After a very quick drive to noodles me and her sit down, and just like the weeks of conversation earlier- slip in to easy and non forced conversation. I learned quite alot about her during our short meal.
- she grew up on a farm
- likes to hunt
-loves the out doors
- loves sports and did more than i care to recite
- good natured, and carries a personality trait that i prize over all things: the ability to be good simply for goodness sake.
I didn't think that ginger could get any more perfect. She had the runner body, with a runner butt and a personality to boot. However she was about to top all of my wildest expectations- she was an under cover nerd.
-She likes videogames
- she likes anime
- she likes starwars
- she is a nerd loser underneath that charming exterior
I didn't think that dinner could have gone any better, until i find out that me and her had long finished out meals, and spend a good 2 hours sitting at a table and talking about nothing. Walking out the restaurant i ask for her number- and get it, along with the promise of having to hang out some time again very soon.
(more to come. I plan to catch TL up to present day on the good fortune that i have stumbled upon, in the form of a stunning redhead.)
