So I've been a member of TL since 2005.. have only 1,000 posts.. about a fourth of those posts have links to my sites.. and I still have yet to contribute something significant to TL.. though I did make that simple TL brawl!!~ script in PHP..
My main skill is programming.. and without access to actual TL code I can't do much with the inside.. so I decided to try the next best thing.. I picked up the Greasemonkey plugin for Firefox a few minutes ago..
I'm sure TL's staff is working on this or at least has it on the to-do list, but I'm merely just attempting this so I can learn GM myself and test my abilities at it while trying to maybe provide something useful for TL. __________
Download Firefox's Greasemonkey: http://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/748
Install latest TL rep system: (v10) http://vilegaming.com/tlrep/tlrep10.user.js
__________
- Change log -
Version 10 Initial release, which is purely UI. No data is actually sent/stored yet. __________
- To do -
+ Allow users to change their vote. __________
- Possibilities -
+ Disable giving reputation on a post that is older than a year. + Some system to fight trolls.

okay... so what does this actually do?
|
try:
var a = window.location.href; var b = a.indexOf('a' );
|
Would be a nice addition. I do like this kind of rating/rep system.

oh, i get it now... i dont really know about this... certain people would be -rep'd into infinity every time they posted (although thinking about it would that be such a bad thing?), and it would kind of remove the ability for a debate to exist because one side would just -rep the other side until their posts didn't show. (or something, i dont really know how the system would work)
|
I really don't like this idea... Idra would get so much bad rep =P. And we'll have thousands of combat-ex and klazart lurker fans -repping people like chill.
|
It would be nice if it were either something that you keep for your own self. Just to keep track of the name of those you (dis)like.
Or something that only mods, or those pointed by mods as good posters could vote on.
I don't think a complete democratic reputation election would work on a public forum. Most people would just troll it.

i dont like this idea at all tl shouldnt be like digg or youtube at all

For those saying they don't like the idea.. this isn't an official TL feature so you aren't forced to install/use it.

This isn't on the to do list because we don't want it. In the event we do have a rep system it would be be TL standard, not web 2.0 standard.
|
Well then.. this will just be a good learning experience for me. ;D
|
I like the idea, but i think it should be kept in the form of a greasemonkey plugin that way only people who want it can use it and maybe after time a signifigant amount of people would be using it.
The only problem would be actually storing the votes so other people can see them, is greasemonkey that advanced?

Good to hear Plexa, because tbh I like the fact that users cannot be "rated" here which is just a "hello please troll me" to some nerds basically. Good example of what the BW-community would do to it? Look at GG.net replay section, every time a good game of a not so well known foreigner gets added there's tons of people giving the replay bad votes. Would be even worse there if you could actually RATE the users. Keep it how it is. Good luck in learning coding and stuff tho @ OP.

yeah i dont like the idea that replays could be rated here either. just becouse of the biase.

haha nice programming. Despite it not being good enough for TL, I still think its cute

@ Piste he actually wanted a reputation system to rate each users post, which would've been even worse I think. I just used the rep section on gg.net as a comparison Sorry for the confusion.

I like the rpf-ish "OH OOPS" "clan vile" channel bot open
I think rating users' posts is a very very bad idea. The fact that it doesn't mesh with TL view-wise isn't even the issue; BW has enough drama already.

thanks for confirming that plexa.
