Hey TL, So this summer me and a friend decided we have some time before college starts and why not attempt to build a guitar.
We have a woodwork experience but minimal experience with the kind of electronics that we have to put in our pickups, knobs, maybe a killswtich, etc.
So I guess I'll keep updating this blog as I go along. So far the plans are based off a Gibson Explorer template I got from someone else's guitar
As for parts everything but the neck will be built(and screws, wires, etc.). I think it will take too much time and money for me to do the neck by hand. So I think I'm gonna get some random neck and put it on this Explorer body. The question is, I have full plans for a 2 pickup Gilbson les-paul style guitar, you guys think I can use those plans for the body of this guitar? In my opinion I think it should be viable to mix and match that way.
I already have a full sized template made and I think I'm gonna go get the wood soon, probably not gonna be an expensive maple guitar or whatever but I'll see. I don't think I wanna go all out on this just in case something screws up.
YEP, that's about it for now. I'll keep ya'll updated for those who're interested or wanna see a newbie take on this task.
Any tips from people who've done this before is largely appreciated, I'm getting most of my information from online but it's great to have someone first hand fill me in on the dos and donts.
Questions, comments?
Thanks for listening yo

make it a goat guitar. That'd be sick.

My old roommate has built a couple wooden bases, I know there was some forum he used for questions/help. I will ask him what that was and post it here.
Good luck.
Edit: Also, if you have any really specific questions I can ask him for you.

Regardless, it's still a pretty good forum to check out. They specialize in basses obviously, but most of the concepts are the same. I rarely venture into that section of the forum, but from what I've seen they're very knowledgeable.

^^Yeah I'm pretty sure that is the one.

It's not only the equipment and tools but the fact that it is hand crafted (unique and had someone really put hard work into it) doubles and even triples the price. I'm trying with what I got! ^^

I was just scanning through this, really helpful cuz i can use some of these pictures as a template for where some of the holes go.
I hope it turns out decently, then when I make a 2nd guitar I can invest more money into it and with less mistakes. At least if it doesn't work, I can have a really cool looking wood guitar prop.
I think im gonna make it as cool as tom morello's guitar though.
edit: Pictures are gonna be up very soon!

If you want a Tom Morello guitar, definitely invest in an Ibanez Edge Pro or Edge Zero. Beautiful trems, and I'm pretty sure he uses the Ibanez trems.

wow, this sounds pretty badass, you better keep us all up to date on how it goes. Best of luck!
