We can point out two RoX directions: commerce (you can see RoX tag in early 2005 [RoX.Pomi or RoX.Ex as an example]. But it never was a playing team (it never took part in any league or tournament). Another direction is fAke. The top-3 Russian team of that time (with S2 and 3D as top-two of former Soviet Union).
Better "zoom"? Then we should start with TkD - first Kapa6ac'es team. Next we should mention uR+fAke merge, and only then we can speak about RoX itself. By the way, only few knows, that there was fOr team between fAke and RoX, which lasted no more thatn one week.
So... The interview with Alexy RoX.KIS.Kapa6ac Bondar
Hi, Alexy! Let's start with common questions. How did you start you career in SC: BW, and how did you get in fAke?
Hi there!
I think I've started like anyone else: with internet cafees. I already knew BroodWar when I tried Multiplayer. Me and my friend were just f#@$ed out with some "crazy" Arbiter+Carrier tactics on BGH. I kinda angry and bought a modem few days after. That was how I started BNet'ing. Not Euro or West actually, but popular Polsky server and starcraft.org.ru. I have also played the last ORKY CUP I was excited with the level of players.
But suddenly I realised managing is even more fun for me, than game itself. So I created a team TkD (the closest translation into English should be "Thumb kinda Dumb"). Few month later TkD and St.-Petersburg's team Cocku merged into fAke.
So that is how we started roxing
Great story! And helped you to keep the team alive?
Well, we were like a "friends' team". No sponsorship or whatever. We were not even thinkg about it We always had meet here in Moscow. And the main thing was we were closed team. Never invited new players. Were afraid to break idyll we had
So the friendship is the goal for success. But. Any player wanna get some cash playing, no? What did you do to get sponsor?
As I said, we were not thing about sponsorship that time.
But when we came third in Russian Team League (only 3D and S2 were better), we started to thing about top place in former Soviet Union
But yeat again, no sponsorship. As everyone understood we had to be not top in Russia, but in the whole world outside Korea.
And I had a bet, my team will be best in the world (again, here I mean "world outside Korea"). And I won it recently
Tell us about fAke and uR merge
Oh! First I wanna say uR was the next great team of that time. They kept rummors rolling. BRAT_OK started as uR.BRAT_OK as you can remember
uR also had players like TpyTeHb_Makcu, CPOCT, ProFi, Antiwish, gagTerran and others. fAke uR were always friendly to each other, and we even thought of full merge with a new tag creation, but it failed somehow. Weeks later some of uR retired, and the rest joined fAke.
BRAT_OK went S2 first, right? How did he get back to fAke?
Well, S2 were far from the best. The team was about to dismiss. And he had a lot of friend in fAke. When we offered to go to BootCamp, he joined fAke.PeoOple
Ok. Closer to nowadays. How did you start making business with Bruce?
I knew Igor Bruce Utkin long ago. And he was also watching us. He was always talking to players, gave advices and so on... We improved our relationship on WCG Russia 2007. We were playing at top-divisions of WGTCL (the only working team league of that time). So, we played WCG Russia 2007 ready to take Grand Final spots, but failed. Only gOgna made it to 4th place. So after that WCG we offered Bruce to join. So that is how RoX started. I can tell a lot more about it
You mentioned the BootCamp. What was that?
The greatest thing ever. Eight of us playing BroodWar, walking in the forest, playing soccer, ping-pong, cooking tons of food and so on
Someone's "summer cottege" with a lot of PCs?
My own cottege, five computers and fresh air
By the way, that was the place, where such gosu like localhost or Mamon dramatically improved their skill. Mamon - the JullyZeg <3
So that is the way to improve. Korean style offline practise
When RoX was opened, what were your orders for players? And what could you offer?
As Bruce brought A2, Ex, Androide and Pomi the only goal was at least top-3 on all team leagues; all the WCG spots or our countries and best perfomance in offlines/onlines.
2008-2009 is the best time for team: Pomi, Local and Brat - top-3 in WCG Russia, and Dimaga champion of WCG Ukraine; Brat - top-3 of the greatest BroodWar online of all the time: the Teamliquid Star League; both RoX.KIS squads made it to finals of ASUS Team Spirit; great perfomance in WGTCL, and first spot in ICCUPCL.
And I won the bet, I told you before
Why are you out of business now?
Well... My age. Another interest...
Duhhh... That's all so gay comments. I'm just lazy, I have to confess! I lost that spark inside of me. And I found it again as a player. Now playing DotA (online and offline tournaments).
Anyway you are proud being part of RoX.KIS. What the team for you now?
I can only speak about RoX'es SC squad.
It is the same as six years ago. Closest friend. And I always watch team results, player's replays, VODs and so on. It's like a drug. Almost impossible to forget. And I don't want to.
Like most of us, I suppose
Okay, Alexy, much thanks for the interview. It was a great pleasure for me!
