Can anyone else believe the Kansas City Chiefs traded Tony Gonzalez for a future 2nd round pick?
To me, this is just bonkers. I have no idea why they would find this acceptable. I mean, I know Tony demanded to be traded... but the Chiefs are settling for nearly nothing. There is no hurry as the regular season is a long ways away, yet they act as if Tony has little value. Either that, or draft picks are becoming far too valued.
I went on a tangent about the issue over at my sports blog. Check out this blog entry.

I hadn't heard of this but that is an amazingly good trade for the falcons rofl

The fuck. This seems like highway fucking robbery.

It's interesting... I think it really depends on how much longer Gonzalez stays in the league. Gonzalez is 33 and probably only has a few more years left in the league, so a 2nd round pick seems like an alright deal to me. Let's say by miracles of miracles he lasts for another 4-5 years? Then the Falcons made out really well. And if he retires after this year? The Falcons overpaid for him.

I live in Kansas City and I'm a Chiefs fan so this comes as pretty sad news. However I feel like it's what Tony wanted to do since he wants the chance to win a Superbowl for once and staying on the Chiefs this year wouldn't give him that chance.

How old is that guy? He's really bound to go off the deep end any year now. Good move by the Chiefs imo.

People forget that even the draft is a lottery. Honestly, for a TE that is still amoung top 5-10, even if he doesn't last that long, the trade is excellent for Atlanta. The Falcons are going to have a solid offense next year.

Being a Chiefs fan.. this absolutely crushes me.

haha I cant believe im reading NFL stuff on here..
As a huge falcons fan, ive been in SUCH a good mood all day about this.. Not to mention, Jake Delhomme signed an extension for the panthers?? Can you say panthers will suck for another 4 years! Yes..
The thing that makes this trade good for the falcons, is that its a 2nd rounder in 2010. That way, we can focus all on the draft this year, and continue building our solid core. Even if Tony only has 2-3 years left, its better than spending a first on that Brandon Pettigrew guy (bustt?)
Just think of how deadly this falcons O will be if everyone stays healthy.. Turner, Norwood, Mike Jenkins, Roddy White, Tony G, Matt Ryan. Ovie Mugheli.. its like almost all probowlers or potential probowlers. Not to mention the last two years, drafted two O-Line in the first round (Baker and Blaylock)..

I think it was Pioli making Gonzalez happy. The dude busted his ass for years for this team, and they've hung him out to dry for the past few years. He's been loyal, and the organization is returning the favor. Plus, it was no secret that he wanted out, so that kinda pisses on any leverage they had.

Live in Kansas City. Gonzo said he'd only play 2 more years, but today (after the trade) he was talking about 3-4. He sat out of a voluntary camp and made it pretty clear last year that he wanted to go.
This in my opinion is a good trade. 1. Just because the pick is next year doesn't mean it cant be packaged and delt again. 2. Gonzo had no intention of playing with the chiefs, is old. 3. We will finally get away from bieng a team that features a TE as our primary recieving target.
Just saying, alot of different views on the same thing. Sure Atlanta's pretty beastly for a bit, but Tony whines if he doesn't get the ball, or win.

Yeah he's getting kinda old, but maybe a first round draft if anything?
