(aside from the first obvious pointless one) 1) There are rarely given opportunities for any Asian American actors to even make it in the field so naming some would be a difficult process. However, I can tell you, I do have contacts in the field. Are you are familiar with produce Justin Lin? (he made Indianopolis, Fast and Furious: Tokyo Drift, Better Luck Tomorrow, etc). Everyone agreed Sung Kim's role in that movie as Han was brilliant. Yet, when the character was first created, Lin had to fight tooth and nail to let the Asian guy be kept in as Han (in fucking Tokyo) instead of a black guy like Hollywood wanted. Similarly, Justin couldn't get a single backer (he funded Better luck Tomorrow out of his own pocket) because Hollywood insisted that the story be changed to an all white cast instead. Similarly, "21" was based on a real life story. Check the background of the story it was based on to answer any questions you might have about why I brought that up. If you want an instance where an Asian actor clearly outperforms the white lead, check, "http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/webscout/2008/10/hooking-up.html" about the show "Hooking Up". Check B.D. Wong's own problems dealing with Hollywood. End point, how do you expect me to name Asian American male leads when Hollywood simply doesn't allow them any? 2) Self Reflection: fair point, except America is supposedly the melting pot where everyone is accepted as equals right? After all, if an African American can be voted into office, is it too much to ask for one Asian male lead? 3) Physical Attributes: Let's face it, prefacing something with, "this is not racism but scientific fact" has been said before with disastrous results. You seem intelligent enough to realize that's a fallacy by itself and nowhere good to start. Wider eyes are not scientifically associated with higher intelligence and never has. It is simply seen as more aesthetically pleasing to most Westerns. If you want to discuss scientific evidence, at some point, scientific evidence said that at one point, cranium size determined intellectual superiority. Much to the dismay of many Caucasians, this would quickly thrown out when Eastern cranium size was found often on average larger than Caucasians. 4) China and Japan are among some of the most racist countries in the world. I do not condone their abilities in that field either. I cannot speak for North korea as I have no background knowledge of it. PS. Watch "Who killed Vincent Chin?" or "Scarlet Screen", etc if you're still adamant about your stance. The following statements are made by excluding people such as Jackie Chan and Jet Li, because they define a genre which is predominantly seen as Asian and requires a completely different skill set than drama actors (or at least lead actors in movies that are not martial arts movies), which I think is the focal point of this argument. 1) FF:Tokyo was seen as a flop by many critics and most of the people I have talked to about, but that is somewhat irrelevant. The role of Han (actor's name is Sung Kang btw), is played by the same actor that played the sniper Goi in "War," and neither of the roles were very emotionally/intellectually challenging, I think you will agree. I am not saying that he is necessarily a bad actor, just that the roles are not suited for making a point about his acting capabilities. I don't expect you to name English-speaking Asian leads that are better than white leads, I expect you to name English-speaking Asian actors** that have proved they have the acting ability to take a lead role. Many Hollywood actors start on shows, in minor TV appearances, etc., there must be at least one or two examples for you to bring up in order to make a point about WHY Asian-American actors should receive the same attention as white actors. This isn't affirmative action we're talking here. My problem with the show you linked me is that the people in the show aren't hired actors in the traditional sense, it seems to be more of a reality show type casting, where they looked at people pertaining to a certain group and pulled out a few. 2) Even if we are forced to recognize others as equals (I have to make it clear at this point that the "forced" is in reference to the population and the law, not my personal belief on the matter) by the law of the nation, many people in America are racist by upbringing against minorities, other minorities, or the majority, depending on the family background. Beyond that, the power of empathy isn't a conscious or fair process where a person considers the fact that we are all humans and that we are all equal, and that they should feel just as bad for an Asian person who lost their wife in a movie as they should for a white person in the same position. It's a subconscious response. Politics, despite what it may seem is serious business, and although charisma and other things are large parts of it and thus also rely on race and racial implications, I think it's safe to say that when voting for a president the brain goes through a much more conscious thought process than when an audience experiences emotions in relation to visual stimuli on a screen. This makes your point more or less irrelevant to the situation. Hollywood is business, and they know what sells and what doesn't. Let's be generous and say that Asian-Americans make up 15% of the population, which I am pretty sure they don't. Although more Asian-Americans may attend a movie with an Asian lead actor, there would conversely be less viewers from other minorities and the white majority, and that is bad business. On the other hand, a white lead would get the usual turn-out from all populations, which is what makes more money, which is what Hollywood wants. Black actors had to force themselves onto the scene to be at the point where people like Denzel Washington, Will Smith, etc. can have lead roles in movies and be considered great actors and receive massive post-office turn-outs. This probably took decades, and although I have some knowledge of the American history of film, I can't say how long or how difficult it was to do so, but I think Asian actors dug themselves and their future colleagues a cinematographic grave by focusing solely on action movies in the early years of their presence in cinema. Asians merely have to go through a similar process as African-Americans to achieve the status that is available to the aforementioned actors. Whether it will be harder or easier, when it will come about, who knows. Do you agree? 3) Note, I have never said that there is a direct correlation between intelligence and eye-white size, that is retarded. I said that for animals, the larger the visible eye-whites, the more intelligent it is perceived to be because it is capable of conveying emotions better than other animals. I made this analogy to the average size of white people's eyes and Asian eyes, which IS fact (I don't think you will argue that on average the size of an Asian person's eye is smaller than a white person's). This does not mean Asians are inherently stupider, or that they cannot convey emotion at all. It is just one thing that limits their ability to do the latter, in respect to white actors. Of course, like I said, there are exceptions to every standard and average, with shitty emotionless white actors everywhere and very telling expressions on the faces of foreign Asian drama actors. This ties in pretty well to what you said about what is aesthetically pleasing to Western audiences. Movies are all about appearance nowadays, unless you aren't coming out of Hollywood and are part of some IFC film. This is evidenced by make-up, plastic surgery, special effects, video-editing to make actors more attractive, etc. It is also evidenced by the fact that most people in America would prefer a white lead actor than an Asian one. Why? Movies are increasingly becoming a visual experience, often departing from storyline and plot emphases to add an extra oomph to the "wow" factor of what people paid to see. Examples of this? Watchmen. Terrible plot (my opinion at least), dopeass graphics. Another? No Asian lead actors. Even if they were MORE talented than white actors, I doubt there would be a significantly higher number of Asian leads in Hollywood. 4) I meant that Chinese antagonize Japanese/Whites, Japanese antagonize Chinese/Whites, and S. Koreans antagonize N. Koreans/Japanese/Chinese and sometimes Whites. EDIT: If those are movies, tell me what point they prove and I will consider it, but I make no promises because I have slow internet here and not much free time.

As far as the BF is concerned, how well do you know him really? It's very easy to pass judgement on others, especially when they have something you want, it's pretty natural to convince yourself that you "deserve" it more and are therefore justified in coveting something that isn't yours, (not that XXXXX belongs to someone).
