Why didn't you bitch them out yourself? It works just as well... It's not like your mom is going to be there for your whole life to take care of situations where people are shitting on you.
Sidenote - I don't mean this as a personal slight, or anything, especially if this is your first experience with customer service, I'm just asking it as a question... Does it seem to anyone else that in canada/america everyone born after 1990 has to have everything done for them, or they have to be spoon fed directions on how to do it?

HP sucks. I have had nothing but hardware trouble with the laptop I got from them, and their support system is complete shit. Would not buy again.

I would agree with you except that his experience of a "dropped call" and lackluster customer service is the norm, rather than the exception for companies like HP. From my experience, (and apparently his, whenever a warrenty actually works it feels like a victory, because it always takes so much effort to have it come through.
Example: The ac adapter on my laptop pooped out, and I called HP. After being transfered and cut off numerous times, I finally yelled at someone loud enough to get a competent individual on the line. They said they would not replace the ac adapter because "too many of them were malfunctioning, so we aren't replacing them anymore". I could either send mine in to get refurbished (10-12 weeks, and I had to send the laptop as well because they were all considered part of the same 'unit'), or buy a new one for 30% off.
It seems to be a constant theme that companies feel they save more money by having bad costomer service than making money off repeat customers and good service.

When my computer boots up, I get that fuzzy white screen.... luckily it goes away after 5 seconds or so.
And I don't smell burning.

I just came home and she did it herself without telling me, so no I don't plan on having my mom to be there my whole life to take care of situations where people are shitting on me. In fact I'm really looking forward to moving out in a year or two and getting away from home. I am one of the most independent people I know. I don't really understand your question though. I couldn't have tried doing this any other way by myself. I called HP, gave them my product information, had the serial code, receipt ready, all the cords it came with together, the product ID, and was just expecting them to confirm it all and send me a box to ship it back to them.
