Okay so it started about a week and a half ago, on a Friday after school. I get home, eat take a piss, etc, then go on my computer like I usually do. I'm on for about half an hour and decide to get something to drink because I am thirsty. I come back with a glass of water and as I walk in my room I stopped in the doorway as I looked at my monitor.
The screen was blank, but not just black. The screen was white. So I move my mouse, checking to make sure it didn't enter any power saving mode or screen saver or whatever and nothing. I click, press some keys, turn it on and off. Nothing. So I turn it off, unplug it and restart my computer. I waited about a minute then plugged the monitor back in and after 2-3 seconds it starts smoking out the top and smelling like burned something! WTF?!?!
Alright so I don't want it to catch fire or some shit so I unplug it and sit there for a minute. My mom comes in the room a couple minutes later and says "What's that smell?". So I tell her what happened and she asks if I still have the receipt for it. Yup, thank god. I look at it and it came with a 1 year warranty.
So the next day I go over to Staples, which is where I got my PC and monitor. I put all the cables it came with and the monitor in a box and bring it up to the customer service desk and put it down. I tell her what happened and that I am supposed to have a 1 year warranty on it which is shown on my receipt(I've only have it for about 9~ months). She tells me that it came with an HP warranty and not a Staples warranty. She gives me the number to the HP hotline and their computer technician at Staples saying that he should be able to help me.
I get home, call the hotline, and get put on hold for about 10 minutes. Someone finally takes my call and they tell me they need to transfer me to someone else, so they put me on hold again. 5 minutes into being put on hold my call drops! O_O dammit! So I call back, and the same thing happens. The guy goes to transfer me and the call drops again. So now I've given up on HP's shitty service and call the Staples computer technician. He tells me there is nothing he can do and that I need to solve it on my own.
So I get home, and start to look for another monitor in my house, possibly a spare one. Nope, nothing. I call a friend, and he has one but it is a CRT and like 30 years old -_-. I go and grab it, go to plug it in to my graphics card but it isn't even compatible with it . I look around more and try to plug it into the PC and not the graphics card and it fits but it doesn't pick up a signal. I remove my graphics card and it finally works. The colour is shit, it makes sounds, and I have to rearrange my desk top to fit it on.
Okay I am getting a little pissed now. That monitor is a 300$ 20" flat screen LCD monitor. I try HP again, the same thing happens. So this time, my mom calls them while I am at school today, and apparently when they go to try to transfer her over she bitches out at them or something at all the trouble I've had. I think she asked to talk to a manager or something she gets him personally to help. He takes in the information, finally! :D. I get home today, check my email and it says they have sent me a new monitor which will arrive in the mail by the 27th this month. All my information is in the email and I'm like "wtf, how did they get all this" then my mom explains it. Hahaha fuck finally! I'm just really happy now. I ordered an adapter in the mail to use my monitor as a TV to play wii on(as explained in this blog) and have had it laying around for a week or two. I've been soooo stoked to play ToS:2 and soon I will be able to do it.
So in summary, Fuck you Staples, Fuck you HP, I win! Here is my monitor that is getting replaced + Show Spoiler + /rant

Somehow moms are often the best at doing this sort of stuff...
When I applied to college my mom called them and got an additional scholarship from a 5 minute conversation with the chair lol what.

That's a nice monitor.
And indeed moms can fix a lotta hell up for you!

staples didnt do anything wrong. you only had a factory warranty. you did not go through an "ordeal". you were put on hold and your call was dropped. big deal. why are you ranting like they were impolite or combative with you. there was no "competition/ battle" between you and HP for you to win. merely customer service processing errors.
however, you will probably return to staples to purchase electronics in the future, and also probably purchase HP brands in the future. so no. you did not win. so on behalf of staples and hp, "fuck you, we win".
but congrats on having a nice monitor.

Man it is so hard to play on this shitty 12" monitor or w/e it is. The height/width settings for units and buildings in SC is quite a bit different too. It's harder to micro like this lol =/

but congrats on having a nice monitor. Staples gets more slack, but the lady at customer service said the computer technician should be able to get a hold of HP personally if I had trouble, and he didn't do that for me. So that is why I am mad at Staples, and I am mad at HP because the computer technician said my calls were getting dropped because the people there don't know what the fuck they are doing and messed up my call. So that is why I am mad at HP.
I just say I win because a) it makes me feel better, and b) it seems like HP doesn't take good care of their customers in hopes that they don't have to give me a new monitor like they do now that my mom bitched at them.

I felt like I had to move my mouse all the way to the end of my mousepad just to move the cursor to the edge of the screen.
Nice story though! Mom ftw.

Having your mummy sort out problems for you is slightly humiliating, but I suppose you could use the excuse that women are better at bitching, which is a necessary skill when dealing with large corporation hotlines.

Yes they can be useful for that, but I didn't even ask her to do it. I came home before she did, checked my email and was like wtf???? Then when she came home she told me that she called them again while I was gone.

It's only himuliating if you feel humiliated by doing it. He feels no humiliation from his mother calling, thus there is nothing here slightly humiliating!

Exactly, that's the same thing with the government... a president would have no value at all, would be just a simple and plain person, if there weren't people he could push around.
