You know what would be a really cool idea for a UMS map? It’s like melee, but you select a progamer incarnate to help you in the game.
Let’s say you take Nada. Nada has good multitasking, so you get a slow additional trickle of minerals and gas to make up for your shitty macro. Also, because he’s just so good with mnm micro, all marines and medics and firebats get bonus hp or something.
Now let’s say you take Boxer. Now, you don’t get the extra macro bonus, but occasionally (every 2 minutes or so, after the 10 minute mark) you get a free mnm drop at every enemy expo.
What about Flash? Every 10 minutes, a massive terran army spawns at your main.
What about Nal_ra? You could get 4 free (unpowered) photon cannons at every expo and some other stuff? Pusan? Your zealots and templar get tougher, and storm is cheaper? Bisu? Whenever you kill 6 overlords a dt spawns at a random enemy base?
July? Zerglings and Hydra now morph in 3’s and 2’s, respectively ^^ Jaedong? Mutalisks get extra damage and armor? Savior? Plague is already researched and plague and swarm are much cheaper, zerg units overall are stronger?
I dunno, I’m bad at making ums. But somebody should do this.
edit: oh you could also put in dissadvantages too, like
stork: cannot research goon range firebathero: the player playing against fbh, if protoss, gets free troops

Sounds like Oov? Maybe Flash could start you out with an extra (14)CC

that seems cool... but boxers marines should get an extra 25% hp boost or something. and jaedongs scourge deals 500dmg.

Sounds like Age of Empires.

Savior: cannot upgrade adrenal glands, maximum of 12 lair tech units

Jaedong: an enemy facing him gets +5 damage and +5 armor to bcs.

would be almost impossible to balance, but if someone pulled it off would be cool.

nonono its based off of different progamers its melee some units are better than others other times triggers occur like dropship attacks or dt spawns in ur expos or massive armies spawning in your base or multiple units being spawned at the same time etc etc etc
hell even random neutral plagues/storms/irradiates on the enemy army by "neutral" forces.

I played a UMS map like this where you choose a progamer and each progamer has his own specific signature unit. So it's not really an advantage, but you are "restricted" to making only that certain unit. you start off with a shitload of workers to get the game going and also remove early game balance.
For example, July, known for his mutas could only make mutalisks and zerglings, Reach I think, could only make zealots and high templars. Boxer of course limited to m&m and dropship play oov limited to tanks and vultures
etc etc.
it was played as a 2 team game so 4 "progamers" on each side. I remember playing it with friends 3v3, a couple years back, and it was actually pretty fun. I dont remember any specific imbalances, although I did feel oov was the strongest out of all -___-;
edit:~
back on point, yes this would be a good idea! if someone could make it, it'd be great fun.
although, I'd think it'd be too hard to place all these triggers and stuff, so maybe making a newer version of the map i described? but with like new-age pro gamers!

Stork: Cannot upgrade goon range, and your units get ridiculously stronger, albeit you still get second (i.e. lose).
