I got a new laptop over the summer because my old computer was complete shit. I thought "hey, 4 gigs of RAM should be able to last it a couple of years before it starts lagging like hell." Well, recently, it's been ... lagging like hell ... Not like ZOMGIGOTTAVIRUS lag, but more like "afterbeingleftonforawhilecomputersucksandcantdoshit" lag.
I defrag pretty consistently, still have 90 gigs left on my hard drive, and usually just run Starcraft/Steam/Firefox/VLC/Word.
And I've already tried downloading more RAM, so please don't advise it .
Oh, and also, Norton (yeah, Norton ... I know ...) keeps detecting a "low-threat" "Tracking Cookie" that comes back after being "fixed."
Halp?

Norton sucks. My guess is the computer came bundled with tons of crap and/or you installeda bunch of crap and too much shit loads on startup. In XP it should really only be like 16-25 processes. Just ctrl+alt+del and start closing shit.

howdoyoubuymoreRAM? i have 4 gigs... do i really need to buy more?

i have 2 gigs of ram and i run everything like butter
|
yea its due to vista, its a pretty slow system, just do those tweaks, there is not much else to help you, you need to reduce process count to help make it snappier
xp 2 gig is pretty dang good, if you could or know how i would reinstall vista with xp

Ok, yea vista sucks. Also, laptops suck. They get hot and the parts are small causing a wide spectrum of problems.
Also, if you wanna speed up windows in general. Revert the GUI back to windows classic or windows XP and don't use any of the fancy looking(worthless) new vista features.

Vista is awesome and my laptop is fast.
WTF!!! Downloading RAM? How do you do that?
You probably have too many worthless programs that run everytime you boot up your computer. Get a clean vista disk and reformat.

I think the 32 bit versions of vista only takes a max of 3.2 gigs of ram, getting 4 gig is sorta of a waste
