Alright, the poll in the other thread ended in a tie, so I used my ingenious tiebreaker method of asking irc, and the first response, (made by tl's #1 poster, no less) said we should read 1984. So that will be our first book. We will have a better method for selecting books next time, I promise.
You have until December 1st to get the book and finish reading it. At that time we will have the discussion.
However, if you wish to discuss it while reading it (don't understand something, found something interesting, etc.) you can in this thread IF AND ONLY IF you follow these rules:
Your post should consist of the Chapter you are referring to, and everything else should be in a spoiler.
You can not refer to anything beyond the chapter that is highlighted in your post.
Responses must also be spoilered in the same way, and my not refer to anything past the same chapter.
Example:
Chapter 1 + Show Spoiler +
^^Don't worry, the spoiler has nothing to do with the first chapter.
The complete book can be read online for free here: http://www.george-orwell.org/1984/index.html
Thanks Physician!

Random fact: I will be re-reading this for the club, because I read it like a month ago.
Really good though, so I don't mind.
|
I would join in, but I hate reading
But if I were to read a book, I would read this
|
This sounds like fun! Count me in.
|
Weird. I'm already halfway through rereading this.

Not at all lol! Sure you get a general idea in the beginning of what the book is saying, but it goes so much more deeper into it as you progress.
I suppose I will re-read this book, though I've definitely looked at it a lot already.

was this a casual thing or a signup thinger?
i'd gladly read this again and I'm probably going to either way for school, and tl discussions would be nice
|
Will be re-reading it too then. Good thing we have until December 1st to finish it:D I still have to finish a lot of reading for uni : /
Shouldn't we have this post in the General Forum though? To attract more attention, since there's such a huge number of blogs.
|
Will be rereading as well: The book is truly great though, so it's worth it 5 times.
|
Will re-read for the book club to get my facts straight on. I believe I have a pretty good idea already though.
|
sweet. need to read the last law book first though ^^. December 1st ez.

Yeah, I should have put this in general. Can a mod move it, or should I just make a copy of it in general?
Edit: And wtf with 2 stars, was it really that bad?

sure the book has a good ending but this book was not about the plot, its about an idea, a message. Imo George Orwell is sayin the things way too straightforward and after as I said the first 30 pages you doesnt have the feeling you are reading a roman, it felt like a documentary to me, simply because there was too much information about why is the book actually made in the beginning
|
hahahahahahahah nerds reading for fun! + Show Spoiler +count me in! 8] needa buy the book first, though. Doesn't the saying ignorance is bliss come from 1984?
