Hey guys, I recently started to play some SC again and gave Protoss a try. As expected, I got rushed/cheesed a lot, which really throws me off, since I am a Protoss newb.
Sooo, what do experienced Protoss players think of going 1 Gate Range into Reaver first (off of one base ofc), to fend off 2 Factory rushes or M&M rushes?
I find it quite useful, as I get a rather solid defense and if I take the rush out, I can retaliate instantly. What do you guys think?

you gotta scout you cant go one build every fucking game, imo people around and up to c- will cheese you every-which-way possible. for othello, the small gap they could cheese with a rax build or some shit. but yeah, scout is key.

Yeah, it's not like I go auto-reaver all the time. But it happens that a Terran walls off, so I can't scout. And how should I know whether he's building his CC inside his base or going 2 Factory? In those cases, I go Reaver first.

true... i got to C- from pretty much just surviving cheeses, 13-11 @_@
hmm im not a protoss player, but i would say a 2 gate obs build would do better? im probably wrong though =(

Personally I save my reavers for PvP. I go reavers 90% of my pvp games, and I almost never go reavers in PvT.
Dunno why t.t I guess it's cause tanks have such a range that if they keep them sieged up near their mineral line with turrets near, you can't just drop down your reaver to target fire the scvs cause your reaver will get raped.

There is a whole strategy section full of advice, especially for "newbs".\ Looking to the left I see a [G] PvT Guide right there.

Yeah, it's not like I didn't read those. I'm not looking for general advice at all. I just want your opinions on going 1 Gate Range into Reaver off of 1 Base, in order to counter Terran rushes.

Stay up your ramp. What's the problem?
|
If you want to play it safe, maybe 2 gate goon range into nex? That should be able to counter most of the early terran rushes.

Hehe you say "Yeah, it's not like" a lot.

The safest build for pvt is always 1 gate goon into obs, although you probably need more units to fend off " every" cheese rush. reaver/dt will help a lot to fend off tthe 1 base biomech rushes, holding your ramp will hold off everything else.

There is none. I just want to know whether this is a good idea or not.

Jep, going to try this as well.

You're right, I guess it's because I use it in German all the time

A really solid build to go vs pretty much any build (on othello at least) is 1 gate range + robo and go obs/then reaver or vice versa depending on if you scout a 2 fact or a mnm rush. if he mnm rushes get reaver first ofc if he 2 facts you can have your obs and reaver out (if you put robo near your ramp) before his 2 fact gets there and you can have your nexus faster than his cc.

Thx DeadVessel, that's what I was looking for!

This is smart. In today's economy it's good to conserve reavers.

stay up you ramp vs a 2 fact? How do you get down your ramp when he sets up tanks outside you base?
Also to the OP if you lose the reaver you lose basically no matter what, unless the skill difference is substantial.

IMO the safest build you could do, that has the potential to really fuck your opponent up, is 2gate goon into DT. DTs would start popping out in time to stop a 2fact rush and things like that, and if they were stupid and didn't get turrets, you can cause lots of damage to them with your DTs. And even if your DTs don't do any damage, you can just have them camp outside the Terrans base, to stall any pushes later and use up scans.

Interceptor stocks have actually declined in market price due to being mass produced. So I'd really suggest heavily investing into them. Scarabs are just last weeks stock really.

But what's the use of this if there's not enough pylons?
