This blog was inspired by Salv's blog and all this discussion going on lately whether Protoss is the easy race or not. I might be a formidable Protoss opponent for many foreigners and that's why a race-switch is necessary to carry out my investigation.
Since there are so many people complaining about PvT being easy mode, I decided to try some Terran. My background experience is mostly watching progames and playing around with random years ago.
Equipped with my keyboard and mouse, I ventured out into the deep abyss (iCCup) to find the truth about Protoss! Are they really easier to play on D level? Will my Terran have a chance against all those 1a2a3a4a5a newbies?
We're on our way to find out.
Map is Othello. Protoss scum is up at 1 o clock while I'm down at 5 o clock. While i hoped to gain some advantage by answering 'mars' to the obligatory 'from?' question, it didn't seem to have any effect. 'me korea' he replied.
My inexperience in basic build orders already started to show. Oh god, what am I going to do with all this gas?
I pondered on my situation while i tried to get his damned probe out of my base.
After I finally chased the probe away, I unveiled my triumph card. 3 factory! This is going to be easy. Shit's scary as hell when I'm playing Protoss, there's no way a D newbie can handle strategy of this calibre.
Since I focused so hard on my build, I forgot about the Barrack i randomly sent out. Fuck. But who cares, I'm not gonna need more factories anyway.
I move out offensively while expanding. Seems like the bastard went for a 2 gate obs build. A decent counter, but I bet the fucker can't micro like I do.
God damnit, how did he already get his exp up. I barely started mine. And he has lots of goons, on top of that. Is this the power of Protoss?
Cockmongrel. He caught me with my pants down when I rolled out with my mighty 3fac army. No wonder since the bastard was hovering an obs over my tanks all the while. I'm gonna need turrets.
Fuck. My vultures, where the hell did they go?
Jimmy was late into the battle. But he actually brought two goons down to Aiur-hell.
Even though my first army fell, my A level macro is shining through and I got all the way to his base with little to no resistance. This shit is easy. I'm adding lots of buildings. Smart. I know the pain of trying to break through a push when all my goons stuck up shooting at the buildings.
God damned zealots. I gotta be careful with those mines.
NO. What the fuck. Where did they come from?
My SCVs are desperately trying to block the path but all in vain. At least they are meatier (sp?) than the probes that die to fucking two vulture hits.
But it's all quiet on the we-... Already speedzealots? God damnit. Shit is falling apart.
At least I survived that huge goon army. Not too many scvs left though...
I got more tank and I'm back into this shit again. He's never gonna get out of this push. I even got a ton of vultures.
Back to killing probes n shit again. Eh- Jimmy, did you see some dark shapes passing by? NO DAMNIT IF YOU DON'T SEE THEM THEY DO NOT EXIST.
Coward Toss tries to attack yet fails miserably. Yeah baby I'm still in this shit.
My homies decide to have a traffic jam in the most critical moment.
Does this look familiar? Bastard countered again while I was busy spamming turrets in my main.
My iCCup Profile. Starting off with a not so impressive 7-5. But some of them were TvT and I have no idea how to play TvT. It's fun but complicated.
This was just a fluke. I played on the korean hours. I was a bit unlucky in my other matchups, but I actually went 2-2 in TvP!
Conclusion for today: True, I lost to some protoss scum, but I still don't believe them to be easier to play thus far. Those I lost to had actually pretty good micro/macro and understanding of the game.
In the next part I'll show you how to rape D+ and probably C- level Protoss newbs as well. I think my Terran can go really far if I just concentrate a little.

My point exactly, at noob level all races are equivalently easy/hard. You don't even need to go bio in TvZ, mech rapes noob zergs (otherwise it would be harder).

I think it's the reverse. At low levels protoss players have an advantage due to the easier mechanics, but at higher levels when almost everyone have decent mechanics it pretty much evens out.

So when low level was high level like a couple of years back, by your reasoning Protoss was super imba back then?
My intention wasn't to start another useless argumenting thread, just to carry out my personal investigation of what it's like to play the difficult races on low levels!

Yes these are some scientific and worthwhile findings indeed, surely more likely to invoke objective understanding than "another useless argumenting thread"

at least not as useless as the SC2 forums

Protoss game sense and timing mistakes are less forgiving, and at low levels, poor game sense/timing < poor micro.
The thing is, its easier to learn game sense and timing than micro, so there's a level where players have all the necessary game sense but not the necessary micro.
As LastWish said, you can win with mech vs zerg easily at low level terran. Try going mass goons vs 4-hatch hydra in PvZ, even at low levels.

Loved your caption, I thought you would win

Why terran? go zerg.
I appreciate your blog btw

It doesnt work that way. At that time the strategys where different, micro was more important, low econ games etc.

I COMPLETELY AGREE WITH YOU. THANK YOU FOR YOUR UNDERSTANDING!

So Protoss race is weaker when strategies are different, when micro is more important and when fighting in low economy games? Hmmm...

Your terran really sucks in relation to you being such a skilled protoss player Shauni.
Don't understand how you can manage at higher levels of play without knowing the timings of the other races.
I don't play terran either, but I can easily go C, to probably be struggling alot around C+. Don't really know how far I can push my zerg, but I'd imagine it be about the same. I'd kind of expect all B level players or above to be able to execute all the basic builds/openings of the other races.
Then again, how long have you been playing Starcraft? The ability to play other races should have alot to do with experience.

Good fucking blog.
If your anything like me, it pisses you off losing to people whom you know you would beat with your main.
P.S: I hate that "Me Korea" response lol, total bullshit.

Then elaborate, pretend I'm retarded.

I can only offrace AGAINST protoss And all my offraces suck - oh well, as long as my main is fine I really don't care

o.O nice other season stats

Since 2001 online. I've played random for 3 years. Yeah, I went C+ with random some earlier iccup seasons, but when I find myself with another race I get the overwhelming feeling that I'm a creationist and can manage any unorthodox strategy at any level. I start to set handicaps for myself and when I realize my opponent can actually play I'm already fucked. I'll elaborate and make more examples of this later in my Aiur Dignity blog.

Haha, I know you man. Sometimes I can barely resist the temptation to go like '"RE IM P NOW DAMNIT I'M GONNA 1a2a3a4a5a YOUR ASS!"
