Baek Ji Young started in 1999, singing pop songs to a Latin beat. Her first album, "Sorrow" featured a song called 선택 (sun taek, meaning choice).

Another popular song from the album was called 부담 (bu dam meaning pressure) and it spawned a dance which was pretty popular in Korean clubs. The dance is turning your head rapidly from side to side.

Her second album, Rouge, came out in April 2000 and sold 360,000 copies. She became one of Korea's most popular dance artists.
However, a sex tape involving her was leaked on the Internet, which featured her with her manager, creating a huge scandal. To put it in perspective, Korea is a country in which it is considered rude to show cleavage by wearing low cut shirts. There was heavy media coverage and Baek Ji Young apologized but refused to quit singing.
She released a third album, "Tres", which sold under 200,000 copies. With weaker sales and the scandal still plaguing her, she decided to take a break from the music industry.
After two years, on August 29, 2003, she released her 4th album entitled "Smile".
However, she didn't make a real comeback until March 2006 when her 5th album "Smile Again" did very well.
Her song 사랑안해 (sarang ahn hae meaning I Won't Love) was a ballad and it was extremely popular. However, most of the songs on the album remained Latin/dance tracks which was the style that she has been using. This song reached the top of several charts and in November, she won an award for "Best Female Solo Singer". It is also one of my favorite songs ^^.

On September 7, 2007 she released her 6th album called "The Sixth Miracle" with the lead single "사랑 하나면 돼" (sarang hana myun dwe meaning I Only Need One Love"). She won an album for this album at the Seoul Music Awards in January 2008.

Despite the scandal, she seems to be rather popular now, although I can't be sure. I have seen her on various programs including Happy Together and her albums once again sell very well.
