This is pretty awesome, but it's not like they're taking it for academic credit - "0-1 credit"? It's the equivalent of an athletics class or something.
There are a ton of silly college courses...I'm taking Wine Tasting this year and there's also a Windsurfing class at my college, for example. SSBM actually seems like it fits in with the other "fun" classes out there today.

Hey cool finally a course that you can waste your time on and amount to nothing instead of doing something useful like math.

Are you freaking serious?

i wonder how they'd go about teaching ssbm since some characters are naturally better than others. "Okay class, choose a character. Fox or Falco."

Whatever. We have a StarCraft class. 1 credit.

Would be awesome if they did Third Strike instead of SSBM. Use university funds to invite guest lecturers Kuroda, J, KO, Ino, and Boss :D

Yeah, there really is thaught everything today

tbh I think this course is more useful than a lot of other courses out there.

The fact that a school would waste their budget on some bullshit like this is ridiculous...

They don't have to spend anything really. Its probably taught by some grad students who basically set the course up themselves and teach it just to get some experience talking and teaching students. Its obviously just a blow off/fun class for students which is basically just like a lot of the many althletic classes that are run at every university. Its just something for students to have to relax a bit. I took a bowling class my senior year for 1 credit and it was all run/set up by a kinesology grad student who can do everything themselves for such a simple course. 1 credit is nothing when you need like 130 for a degree (and plus you dont get an actual grade so you cant use to buff your gpa either). I say cheers to them for recognizing that gaming has become a very popular past time for this generation.

If you wanna go deeper, I'd argue that all that shit (bowling, etc, all those required phys ed classes) along with required at classes, etc is bullshit. I came to college to learn my major, not shit I'll never use again. Stuff like that is in place to generate $$$

ssbm is definitely in the higher tier of skill games, below things like street fighter, starcraft and virtua fighter but it's still pretty high. Not the worst choice by a country mile imo!

Yes but it's still incredibly shallow because games are limited to rules, anyone could understand the theory of games unless they're really really complex, in which case you're still better off studying something that applies to the real world.
