when the groups were announced I was already doubtful he'd advance - Bunny, Dream and DRG are all formidable opponents - and now I'm even less sure. But I wouldn't put it past Reynor to surprise us all.

But I wouldn't put it past Reynor to surprise us all. I won't say a Katowice-ish reynor would win the GSL, because winning is always gonna be hard for everybody, and it requires a lot of things going right. But at the same time, that kind of reynor is a top 4 strong candidate. He's been there for some time now, he knows the place and the people, and tbh reynor doesn't strike me as someone with a lot of adaptability issues. Don't think preparation would be an issue, it's not rocket science, not saying he's the best at it, but even if he was average, he'd still the favorite against everyone except the top, Maru-level koreans. He said multiple times that he doesn't feel the pressure of live events, he's been at the studio already, so I think the studio will definitely not be an issue. The problem is.... he doesn't seem to be at that level, and it'd be a real shame if he goes there and doesn't show up. He admitted that he kinda hasn't trained as much except for Katowice (and it shows), I was hoping he would be more consistent this year with the WTL to play, but unfortunately it seems that's not enough to keep him at it. I don't want to sound entitled, he doesn't owe me nothing, I'm a fan and I'll still a fan anyway, but even if he's training a lot since he got to korea (he said it and I believe him) I'm not sure this time it'll be enough to raise his level in time, and the more I watch him struggle and lose, the more I'm concerned about his GSL run.

It's pretty unlikely that Reynor loses to Dream, even in poor shape. Bunny could absolutely beat an out of form Reynor though, and DRG has become good at upsetting strong Zerg with prep time. Reynor could fail to advance, but I think his decline is overstated - he did just beat herO in TSL, and if he didn't mess around with Protoss it's very unlikely he would have gotten eliminated so early from HSC (the loss to Astrea was uncharacteristic though.)

The level that he played against Clem is more than enough I get DRG cause things can happen in ZvZ and Reynor's preferred option of playing Protoss to dodge ZvZ is out of the window. Nobody would have expected DRG to have a winning record against Serral in 2022 either. But at this stage it's very unlikely to me that Reynor doesn't advance.

Maxpax is actually Serral's protoss, he's saving it for IEM Katowice 2023, but if he played Protoss at lans everyone would notice. Unfortunately for Serral, since he's a patch zerg he isn't nearly talented enough to beat Dark even with more time to practice as toss than reynor. You might ask how Serral can play himself, or how Serral has played two matches at the same time, but ESL is in on the conspiracy by letting "Maxpax" games all be cast from replay.
