There are some talented younger players. Viewership still is amazing if some old heroes play. SC2 on the other hand, looks on the brink of death again. Lots of players have retired, some are going to the military. There are younger players, but the tournament scene is a shell of former glory. Streaming only works if you have lots of foreign fans, because korean viewers prefer BW. Once ESL pulls out, it'll be back to grassroots level, which SC2 has never been. But it's too soon to even make an informed guess. Let's enjoy it while it lasts.

Unfortunately if they are not the absolute best of the best it's really not the case.

Also Arty mentioned that there are far more players coming to try the ASL qualis but almost none for the GSL qualis. Which is probably the most horryfying thing considering the longevity.

Unfortunately if they are not the absolute best of the best it's really not the case. Dont really agree with that, in eu especially ive mostly enjoyed the tvts between the top terrans which has delivered tons of lategame matches which are action packed the whole way through. In zvz most people only get hyped when its serral v reynor. And while that matchup can be interesting, muta's just seem too strong atm and its all about scouting it in time and then A just camping untill you get the perfect army comp or B nydus the hell out of the muta player and try to end the game or die trying. And then pvp was quite fun for a while with the stalker disruptor, but that matchup is too stagnant atm with 30% of the matches ending because 2 adepts shade in the mineral line, 60% of the matches going into disruptor/stalker and then 10% of the time we get some sort of interesting lategame comp which can still evolve into both players massing shield battery's and camping while tempest shoot each other and random zealots run across the map with a observer on top of them. Ofc TvT can be boring the first 8 minutes or so if both players want to play defensive. But after that the diversity in this matchup is immense, and the choices in the army comp are quite diverse. Hell we even saw Maru going for both mech and bio upgrades at the same time in one game trying to mindgame TY which just never happens.. TvT has been in a good state for a while, and long may it last.

TY simply outplayed Maru in that series. We can debate for long hours about what could have been and what should have him or him done, but that won't change the fact that TY played better and won. He wasn't going for some super cheesy builds or any sort of weird stuff, he just played standard (if there even is such thing in TvT nowadays) and beat the hell out of Maru. Good series overall and deserved win for TY. And speaking for myself, the narrative of G5L as a never achieved myth and elusive dream is far more interesting than one player simply acomplishing that feat.

However, every composition has tanks and marines as core units, while the tech choice is really about which and how many starport units you make: medivacs, vikings, ravens, liberators or eventually BCs. Mech is a niche, and going hyper-mobile on pure bio has not been an option for a very long time.

TY surely has to be rising up the GOAT rankings given his 2020 so far. 2 GSL titles and he’s seized the highest GSL win rate off Mvp, along with holding on to his highest TvT winrate accolade (which iirc is maybe the highest vX of anyone’s individual matchups in GSL)

That's how high it is. | ||
