Some people dislike Irish people but I like them. Part of it is I’m half-irish, but my favorite reason is their terms of endearment.
They call men lads in ireland. I wish we could call fellows lads here in the US.
Say your server was polite and you want to say thanks sir... but this server is younger than you, in this case lad would be the perfect term, borh proper and respectful.
There is also lass. It should be known it is no longer appropriate to call +18 females girls... thats just the way it is in 2017. In the US the proper term is women.
However with lass or lassie this annoying PC rule can be overrun.
The sad news here in the west outside of the green isle people will never call observers lads, despite it creating a warm feeling in the listeners heart... Negative nellies will simply question your normalcy? Could the west evolce to allow for lad laddie laddies lass lassie and lassies? Perhaps, but I would i woul say it is incredibly unlikely.
Only in high fantasy does the lovely word lad get to be considered acceptable, a foemat I have been learning as I journey weiting my personal fantasy.
Now, then, we also have fellow. Fellow can not be used i common western culture, except perhaps when one is either being pejoritive or had a few, but fellow is a useful term.
Say for example you had a 19 year old prince, and a 40 year old knight. Lad would be appropriate for one but fellow would be appropriate for both. So, then, fellow has its place, oddly being pejoritive at times, in 2017 party talk, but mostly being descriptive in literature.
But I really love the irish lass... or is lass even irish? I dont know im just a nebraskan with irish/german genes. But it just sounds soooo poetic... That buxom lass... and buxom must be the most colorful word in the english language as ana side.
We in the west are awkwardly forced to refer to desirable20-35 year old females as women, and calling them girls wont get you mobbed, definitly, but the female race are on to our game, so yes.
pejoritive or nice
I had a long talk by note passing with a madman once. I was embarrased, because he was rather annoyed I referred to him as “guy”
Guy is disparaging... dont say hey guys ....say hey people, its a secret, but guys is not a term of endearment, dont ask me why, I have just found it to be true.
The madman went on to say he would much rather be called man, dude, or sir, than “guy” he really hated that. But its true people seemed to like being called dudes more than guys as odd as it sounds. Calling groups of females hey guys is he absolute worst ir brings to mind their finely primped figured sport phalluses... no i do not like this.
Yet when I start a commentary or article on this site its so natural to say “hey guys” but hi people sounds nicer imo not to be a prick but thris is a blog so why not talk about this
Lastly if your server is a young female a good isea to call her miss. Calling friends sir is risky, i personally think it should only be used fir server older than you... dont bother calling old ladies ma’am anymore they really hate it in 2017.
Hmmm this was a dry blog, but its an odd wed morning, or is it just me? In other news i decided to lend my korean friend 200$ well see if koreans are immune to people becoming insuffarable cunts after being lent money
