For those that have read my previous blog... I got myself into a Accounting job, working in a small CPA firm office doing payrolls, bank recociliation, etc. Its really easy stuff, cuz they dont expect me to do anything beyond my level.
Now its time to rant. CONS -Looooow wage, yes so low that amigos probably have higher pay. -Drive my ass up 35 minutes there and back. M-TR. -Read my previous post. I have to give up watching SC vod, cuz time is really a essence. -I have a accounting class that i could be failing, other than my study habit is bad; my time is scythend away by this.
PROS -Easy job, they dont expect me to do much, and I can stall my time. -So chilled that I can go on TL sneakly. -Summer job experience? -The owner is my dad's friend's wife, I am hoping to set a good referrence, cuz my resume is empty.
The cons are what really grind my gears. I thought they would pay me more because this is sort of professionl enviroment. And the gas price is $4.60 locally in California, jesus mother christ. more mini facts, the trip is 25~26 miles, according to my dad the RAV4 '01 has 27mpg, so.. -x_x->
Conclusion, I am wasting my summer youth and paying gas to work? Now its only 2nd week, if i do hang on, I am going for 9 full weeks, get some Bullcrap amount of work experience.
Does TL have any accountants? I see you guys say soemthing simlar to my job, care to elaborate??

Hang in there dude. Ive had worse jobs than that during the summer and well, while it sucks at the actual time when you work, when you look back its a good experience

I can't even find a job right, now, went to so many places, they are just not hiring, period. Economy is in recession, people get laid off, gas price going through the roof, it is a bad time for a soon to be graduate
|
sounds like my job i sit here and study GREs half the day and protoss builds the other half

What I do at work:
1. Stare hopelessly at my computer screen (a bunch of problems that I have no idea how to fix). 2. Go on TL.net

Are you a freshman? If you are just hang in there, its not bad. If you are a junior or higher, GTFO of there ASAP! Its a waste of time. Doing "really easy stuff" isnt a PRO, its a BIG CON. Thats how you know that a career is a dead end, if the company gives you easy work. However, if you don't have any thing on your resume, then you are in no shape to jump to a better internship/job.

Haha your jobs pros and cons sound exactly like the same as mine

Please dont rant about gas price :D it costs 1.5euros per liter here in finland which is
1 US gallon = 3.78541178 liters
3.8 x 1.5 = 5.7€
According to yahoo finance 1€ is around 1.55$
5.7€ x 1.55 = 8.835$
Taxes are nice :E

Go into a field where you can get a job straight after college graduation.
If that doesn't work, network until you get a decent job.
If that doesn't work, deal with the best job you can while simultaneously working on some kind of a plan to improve your job in the future.
It's only truly difficult if it is hopeless.

i know gas prices are sky rocketing everywhere, but do you guys drive everyday?

I am senior level but still have 6 or 7 Accounting classes to take for BA. + Show Spoiler +yes its noob planning during my middle years, i am delaying my graduation till Winter '10 so I can have 3 semester to finsh the rest 33 units and perhaps take more accounting class.
I know i am in a pickle for finding harder job. I know Accounting is dead end, but they dont get unemploy as easily.

I have just gotten my degree in accounting and yes some accounting jobs suck. Mainly the lower end jobs because what you are doing isn't accounting it's data entry. Although i also spend some time at work on TL.net its more for enjoyment than out of boredom. If you aren't doing well in a basic accounting class u will never get to the higher levels which pay alot more and are interesting. The problem with the US is that you only have one accounting designation and your accounting principles are based on black/white defined rules. Whereas here in canada we get alot of choice in what we do as long as its reasonable.
So get your CPA if u want to go into accounting otherwise enjoy what ur doing cuz ull do it for the rest of ur life.
