WoW is a boring game. The spells and combat are simply...medicore. The quests are as well, the storyline is actually pretty bad in most parts. It's way too expensive as well. Maybe if that game was actually GOOD I would be willing to level at a slow pace [not that slow] but its not. WoW is trash.

www.wowhead.com will tell you how how to do all your quests if you're stuck.
I agree now, that WoW sucks hard, but back when I was actively playing it, it was quite fun, but I was playing with a lot of real life friends, WoW starts to get fun once you get to the level cap and start either doing PvP or Raiding.
I can't stand playing the game any more due to the sheer volume of newbs who play the game, it's disgusting, the concept of an MMO sucks when people are just horrible at video games.
But back to my first point, I believe WoW is really a social game, for me playing it was the same as active Starcraft days, you log on to play a few games and you find your self sitting in a chat room talking for 3 hours, or sitting in a replay talking. I wouldn't take back the time I spent on WoW because of some of the people I met, with Vent and TeamSpeak I found out there are a lot of cool and funny people out there.

I'm doing the EVE Online 14 day trial. Confusing at first, but it's getting pretty interesting now. I wouldn't pay for any MMO that's out right now though... they all lack that special something that starcraft has.

WoW is a faggoty knockoff of EverQuest, that's why I never bothered to touch WoW.

Iono, my gf and I started wow last week. Before I used to think along the same lines as everyone here, but we're having a lot of fun with it. It's my first MMO and it's a lot more interesting than I thought it'd be.
Also, games that sell millions upon millions of copies tend to be pretty good.

To have pretty much any sort of fun in that game requires either having your friends play with you or joining a guild and trying to make friends through there. Of course it's boring, just like Diablo, but for some reason a LOT of people actually like leveling, item hunting and repetitive gameplay. They'll do anything to get their character better, and I'm sure a lot of people are complaining about the 70 level limit in WoW. Because they're not enjoying the game or roleplaying, no, they just want their character to become even better. And then there's this childish cartoony graphics... and the monthly fee... </rant>
Here are 2 articles showing what's bad about the game in detail: http://www.gamasutra.com/features/20060222/sirlin_01.shtml http://geek.pandemonium.de/2006/06/15/10-reasons-why-world-of-warcraft-sucks/
But one thing is for sure, Blizzard knows exactly how to design games so that a TON of people will like them. They're the best with that. Every single Blizzard game has a huge fanbase, despite all the valid criticism there is.

Its a game you play when you dont have other large obligations in life, other than that its a pretty cool game design wise. Its very newb friendly which sorta sucks but its fun. if you have nothing else to do..

Leveling gets much easier after 20, be happy Blizzard is considerate to the newbies joining the game. Keep your priorities straight (like every other pleasure in life) and WoW is nothing more than a game. And Xeris, if WoW was such a faggoty knock off then why is it so successful, oh wait, two of EQ's developers are lead developers for WoW. Blizzard did a wonderful job in creating WoW and deserve props for it, don't bitch and whine about the quality of the mmo, because pretty much every other MMO out there pales in comparison to the job that Blizzard has done. The two articles you posted are damn near ignorant of the debacles of the MMO genre pre-WoW and post-WoW (for those who are trying to cash in on WoW's success). Is it perfect? No, but compared to the other crap out there or was out there, it definitely set the standard of a "good MMO".

WoW is simply more accessible for the general public consisting of mostly casual players. It's easier to get into than other games, so it grew ever more popular and is now seen as the golden standard of MMORPGs simply because so many play it. Its popularity also draws more players in. Someone who wants to start with an MMORPG these days will most likely start with WoW because the name is so omnipresent. But I haven't heard of anything truly impressive about it.

the fact it took you 11 days to get to lvl 15, whereas a ten years old kid can get to lvl 20 in 7 hours makes it fun how you call the game retarded while obviously...
