In a couple months, when I return from China, I'll have the outpatient surgery to correct the pressure on my wrist nerve and two months following that I should be able to play starcraft again. I'm curious to see what will be left of the starcraft community and whether I'll be able to enjoy playing until the advent of SC2.
I quit starcraft something like a year ago, after losing to Idra in a bid for playing in the USA WCG finals. By that point my APM had dropped from the previous year's 300 to somewhere around 180, and my right hand was partially numb while I played, not to mention quite painful. The lack of APM forced me to recognize the intricacies of starcraft strategy, but the numbness and pain put me on a sort of life tilt while playing, which coupled with the lack of APM, left me bereft of any serious mechanical play. After quitting starcraft I went for a less intensive game - Supreme Commander, but my starcraft experience was too much for the ignorant tribes people who play that sort of game, and I went something ilke 50-0 before giving up the game as boring.
Happily, if the surgery goes well, I'll be able to usher starcraft out the door and also hail the new age of SC2 (which I hope to be a worthy successor). Having played Starcraft for something like 11 years - ever since the beta, I look forward to taking one more swing at it.
I was never a competitive player until by some chance I happened to qualify for WCG regionals my first year of university. Unfortunately I have only a handful of high-level starcraft contacts, so getting back into shape after the surgery will be difficult, but nonetheless I hope to be back in action for the second TSL
