Wait, have they confirmed that all 30 are played on 1 day? That sounds mental I assumed OSL format where we might get 2 matches from each group per day Well the original schedule they released said Group A June 2, Group B June 9, etc. so I just assume they do full groups.
That would be absurd. Matches + time inbetween can easily be 20 min on average. 3 matches take an hour and 30 10 hours. Even if we tone it down to an average of 15 min between game starts we end up with 7,5 hours.
Nope I don't think its gonna happen.

Not to mention Stats beat the best PvPer and vest ZvPer.

What were the best games of Stats vs Dark?

But the schedule they showed on screen during the qualifiers had only 1 day per group, and the teaser for Starleague said Challenge would take place every Thursday in June. So SPOTV being batshit crazy and going for 30 games a day is what I'm rolling with.
If they did like half the games for one group and then had a month of break until they play the other half of that group that's just a giant mess.

Therefore, it is not BO3, but this funny system with 2 games each, so 30 games in total. I expect, some games will be played simultaneously. It is just a challenge, so the casters can choose, which games to broadcast and which ones will be played without streaming.

Stats is a very weird player. He is not flashy in any sensible way and I am not even aware of any "style" he would have. But all his games I have seen recently have a very similar theme - they were "kinda solid". He even does mistakes, he is well capable of forgetting units or outright botching micro, or even doing tactical mistakes of attacking at wrong times, yet he somehow manages to win and to look quite convincingly in it. It is a quality that's really hard to grasp, but it works.

Even when Stats is in his top form and sOs is not, sOs manages to create some fear in Stats, take a risk and win. If there was a player on the other side, in whom sOs cannot create fear (like Innovation), sOs would lose.
On Saturday, if Stats attacked sOs when he created his second and third nexus and did not have any sizeable army, sOs would lose and KT would be probably the winner of Proleague. But somehow, Stats was afraid to attack, even to scout. Therefore, I like Stats :-)

Nice to see him win this, but how much do we value this victory? At the end of the day it was a 4 player tournament, pretty hard to say Well he did beat both reigning Starleague champions convincingly in a longer series with quite a bit of money on the line. And when you can do that, I don't really think it matters if it's a 4 player tournament. You're still pretty damn good and it's still a strong showing. Obviously he didn't win a GSL today, but it was a great performance nonetheless. Oh don't get me wrong, i certainly think Stats is one of the best players in the world right now and today proved that. But in general, how much do we value the cross finals? It's kinda meh i think :/ Considering that the qualifying requirement is top 2 in a Korean Starleague I'd say it's still pretty big in the end. I mean it's almost impossible to qualify for it, let alone win it, for the vast majority of pro players. And it's not like it's Blizzcon where some participants get to play months after they've dropped out of their peak form. So it's a high level competition that's incredibly hard to get to. I don't think the fact that it's 4 players hurts a lot. Obviously it's not anywhere near the level of a Starleague, but this year I don't think anything is, as I'm doubtful about the "Global Playoffs".
I love this point - that since the Cross Final is closer to the Starleague finals, it's a tournament with the top players at their peak. And I think it really showed in the games - all 4 players were playing top level stuff, without massive tilts and mistakes. Same reason why I've always enjoyed KeSPA Cup.
Would expanding the tournament from 4 to 8 be better? Of course, more diversity and more chance to see high level play from the Starleague semi-finalists. I think 8 players is the max - anything more would be running close to a weekend Starleague and diminish the 'elite' factor of the tourney. But a 4-player tourney is really good enough to guarantee high level play - the only thing it really suffers from is diversity.

Imho tho, Stats is doing what Rain was doing-- adding cheesy plays with his solid play to get the wins. Rain himself said at the SSL qualitfiers said that this method got the most wins when he himself did it.
