- Using Doppler shifts, we observe the frequency of the light from these galaxies which is being shifted to the red end of the spectrum. From this idea creates a simple relationship, the greater the distance to a galaxy, then there is a greater red-shift in its spectral lines. This means that these galaxies are expanding.
- The apparent size of galaxies we observe is getting smaller, therefore it only means the university and stretching, therefore expanding and moving away from us.
- The luminosity of the stars and systems are getting dimmer.
