Singapore, early 2006. I took this shot through the plane's window. From that height, everything that is man-made becomes so tiny that for a moment you might suddenly realize that life is, after all, a pretty simple fugitive thing.
Quite a spectacular scene isn't it?

I see just the opposite of you in this picture, I see the tremendous impact of man on its surroundings, the subjugation of nature beneath an industrial heel.

Yeah I get this impression too.
Its sort of like the classic landscape/horizon shot, with the smooth lines, the rolling clouds the calm sea....and then the smooth landscape is broken by the rectangles of the buildings, the sea by the strange regularity of boats.
In addition, the small amount of space devoted to the clouds minimizes nature further
