Hello everyone,
i am really sick of this shit. For over a week, I am literally playing every game with 4 Russians in my team while I am queuing on EU West.
I wanna ask one question: Should Valve implement a region lock so people are forced to play on their own region. This would apply to everyone. NA can only play on NA, EU West can only play on Eu West, and so on... . Of course, private Lobbys should not be affected by this.

Obviously not.
An argument could be made for encouraging people to play on their local server, though. Greater rate of item drops or something along those lines.

So you're saying i shouldnt be able to play pubs with my ukrainian/irussian/iranian etc. dota-2-friends anymore?
|
Oh god no, I might even have to quit dota if that happened. I always queue on SEA servers; there's almost always too much of a language barrier whenever I queue on Indian servers. It'd be impossible for me to communicate far too much. In the bigger picture, it would tighten up the communities, and dota being the toxic one it already is, that's the last thing we need.

The problem is all the players who queue with English language preference yet don't speak it. That's where the big flaw in the system lies.
I believe that if you frequently use a different langauge to communicate with in-game you should be blocked from queueing the language you have selected.

Quite legit points have been made already. Lets see how this goes on.
What about a region lock only for solo game queues?
|
after thinking about it for a bit I think we just need to deal with it and accept that sometimes people will queue for area's they shouldn't. I enjoy playing on EU with some friends and I'm in Canada. Doing it for solo ranked queue might be possible but for any area that has a lack of high mmr players (australia japan ect.) it might make life even more miserable for some of them

To be honest there are still ton of non-russian toxic players and region lock wouldn't stop you from having toxic players in a game cause in the end it's still a competitive teamgame. It will always be frustrating and no matter how "nice" "educated" "civil" the players are there's no way nobody gets frustrated and bound to flame the game or somebody else.
You think russians are are the "difficult" to play with have you tried playing SEA? Everybody spams curses in their local language and nobody understand each other due to language barrier trust me waht you experience is very tame compared if you play in SEA where half the time nobody understand each (yes that doesn't mean some can speak english we have the same understanding when it comes to english) other.
So pretty much we are guaranteed with shitty games and it will never change. Americans , singaporeans, malaysians, peruvians, pinoys, russians and i bet even in your region no matter what country you belong i'm very certain there will still be ton of toxic players. So i'm no for region lock.
If it's about "language barrier" now i guess that can be kinda fixable with a better queuing system and like i mentioned SEA experiences that heavily too. Maybe if the "language preference" works well as well as it's kinda more notable (UI wise so people change it).

I've never bothered to change the server settings so I play with russians all the time, I think it's quite interesting tbh.

Russians are not worse or any more toxic than others.
They are just "the Chosen" Group that gets picked on by everyone else because: Diffrent language/no or worse english than most western europeans. Diffrent Alphabet (than most). and RUSSIA!! DAVAI DAVAI.
Embrace it :D

I'll vote for anything that gets people from servers where they don't the speak the common language. My favorite would be a super primitive mini questionnaire in the respective language of the server you're choosing and if you get enough answers wrong a fist comes out of your screen and punches you in the face.

Embrace it :D that is pretty much all, honestly. you gotta remember that the gc records p.much everything that in any way constitutes interaction with others (including pings, location of them, team chat, all chat, who do you mute, who does mute you, etc.) and uses it to weigh reports you take against others or others take against you; wouldn't be very surprised if all those stats were used to queue you with similar people (more than that, my empirical more-biased-than-not experience suggests that it is indeed the case). if i were you, i would just have it reset for like a week and then come back, mute everyone from the very beginning and stop worrying about it. i guess you may value communication highly, but you gotta do with what you have and sparing your nerves from getting wrecked (which impacts your performance) is definitely worth even this sort of a handicap.

and ofc not. I'm queueing with my peruvian friends now and I'm learning so much spanish. I owe a lot of my english education playing on EU server when I first came to America in a channel called OP SCS
All of these beautiful international moment wouldn't have happened. I value these a lot more than winning a game, and honestly it's far worse to hear toxic players in a language you DO Know than in a language you don't know

Communication in pubs is completely overrated. Pings are more than sufficient. And you can always ping items or spells and/or draw on the map. There isn't time to explain people new strategies. They either have a clue or they don't. This whole you need to speak my language thing in Dota is mostly a little xenophobia or just vanilla racism.

Annoying, but I'll admit I queue US East to play with NA friends. Lack of English comms is quite annoying on the EU servers but at least I'm not stuck in SEA where the ideal SEA player has to know 8 languages by default.
I think region locks would cause more problems than it would solve, most of the reasons were touched on already.

Mute everyone, alt-click stuff and use the chat wheel to communicate. This is what I do when there are people who insist on chatting in a language that I don't understand in voice chat. Or learn some Russian, cyka!
