Over rated or not, this is one of the two games that originally got me into games. Totally pumped.

I need some towels...
Now I just need a New Chrono Trigger.

Jeez.
I am both hyped and terrified.
I REALLY hope they nail the voice acting. This is so important. I want voice acting on par with FFX's.
Please, SE.

oh dear god...
How I have waited for this day.
Perhaps the #1 game I'd like to see be remade. A game that people have asked for forever. The only thing possibly better than a sequel to FF7.
I...I hnnnnnnggggg
No but seriously, I can't believe I'm seeing this. What's next Half-Life 3?
|
This brings tear in my eyes but I don't know if it's due to fear or excitation. I guess both as the voice-over nailed it.
Damn, I'm now seriously considering buying a PS4 all of a sudden...

This really seems to be the console generation of remakes.

Square using their 'get out of bankruptcy free' card when they are in a stable financial position is kind of interesting... Hope it comes out on GOG... lol, who am I kiding? :D Might be the only game I'll break my 'dont buy games on Steam anymore' rule for.

Genuinely interested in how they'll deal with the fanboys bandwagon when the original material is objectively so scarce for 2015 standards. Even the dialogues (of a verbose game) of the original version are not sufficient to fill a 2015 game.

Their "get out of banruptcy" card has been played. It was FFXIV.
Honestly, if you look at their (albeit recent) track record, Square Enix is looking a lot like Squaresoft. I'm sure this is the fanboy in me talking, but between FFXIV, Bravely Default, FFXV (which is looking great) and now this...
I think we may be getting the old Square Enix back.

You really think so? FFVII had easily 20-30 hours of game play if you only focused on the story. And well, few people do that in Final Fantasy games. I personally still play FF7 and 9 about once a year, and they hold up great. Give me lots of hours of enjoyment. And aside from the bad translations in FF7, the dialogue is alright. Maybe nostalgia goggles, but I don't think so.

Does anyone know how long before this game would approximately be released? Based on when Square announces games and when they actually release it, I feel like it's going to be a long time.
I'm so excited and hyped that my (video game) dream is coming true finally!

2017 is a relatively safe bet, for the 20th anniversary of the original release of the game.
It might take longer though. I personally would want them to take as much time as they need, even if they miss the perfect window of the 20-year anniversary.

I haven't played an RPG in so long or finished one. I will finish this one.

I played it recently (2 years ago) also, aside from the actual lenght of the script (that it's scarce), there're dozens of things very hard to remake in a 2015 game. Gestures for exaples, all the ironical part of the game was made around them. Try to imagine the Don Corneo scene and the gym guys for example, in '90 I probably laughted at that, but imagining that scene with nowadays graphics and expression standards i can only think at a very weird and failed attempt to make me laugh. They have to do it way better than what I can imagine.

It's not the old Squaresoft until they start doing more than pushing their big money maker franchises.
I could do without the endless remakes, sequels, spinoffs and milking of the FF series if it means we'll get more Mana games, Valkyrie Profiles, Threads of Fates, Bahamut Lagoons, Live-a-Lives and all those other experimental RPGs that gave systems some actual variety.

i expect this iteration to be way darker and more "mature". less comedy bits, maybe only restricted to a few characters. like the Turks or Yuffie.

They have to nail this scene.
