+ Show Spoiler + You've been warned. + Show Spoiler + You cannot wait 4 years for the third game, even 3 years is pushing it and I know there will not be a DLC after Rebirth. But that ending, wtf. Also the censorship. I don't understand it. I get that Cloud isn't crazy he is just treating Aerith like she is just a spirit now, Red XIII appears to have sensed her in the ending cinematic. That she is the angel on Cloud's shoulder while Sephiroth is the devil on the other; with the timelines seemingly starting to merge with Cloud seeing them first with the help of Aerith i.e. the tear in the sky, I also get. I just think it could have been done better. We also did not need to see Sephiroth every 5-10 minutes. The Crater is where the finale is going to happen, we get that. Less is more in terms of threat when it comes to Sephiroth, especially. A Zack DLC probably would have been a major lifeline if the third game takes longer than 2 years.... But still a masterful game. Now to do it again but side quests etc. But first need some sleep.

The side quests add a very significant amount of lore and world building. This is the first game in years where I'm just as excited to complete the side content as I am with the MSQ. Even the world intel stuff unveils some decent lore. Overall I'm blown away by this game, and I'm still only about halfway through the Corel region. Definitely have a good couple of weeks ahead of me if I want to 100% this game ![]() edit: Also how the fuck did they nail the towns/cities so well in this game.

WARNING REST OF ARTICLE HAS SPOILERS. With Final Fantasy VII Rebirth now complete and in the hands of fans, Square Enix can look ahead to the final part of the trilogy, which based on the current pace of development may not be finished until roughly 2028. If that winds up being the case, Final Fantasy VII Remake's grand finale may well be a PlayStation 6 launch title if Sony's comments about the PS5 being in the "latter stage" of its life cycle are anything to go by. As for what the third part will entail, we do have some hints. Notably, Hamaguchi says that Cid's home Rocket Town, which doesn't appear in Rebirth, may be in the next game. "So as for Rocket Town, this was also not a part of Nojima-san's original structure...And considering that how we introduce the character, Cid, for the Remake series this time is arranged a bit differently, Nojima-san, Nomura-san and I were all aligned with this decision to consider this for the next title." According to Hamaguchi, Rocket Town was also cut at least in part to focus on Gongaga, a previously-optional area that gets more prominence in Rebirth. "Considering that in the original the Gongaga area was optional for the players, we wanted to delve into this and express this more in depth for Rebirth. And so that was also an additional consideration for this as well." Unsurprisingly, the Compilation of Final Fantasy VII works also figure to play a role of some kind in the third game. Orignally a collection side-stories and spin-off games, Square Enix has hardly been shy about including characters and story beats from its various works, even going so far as to feature elements from the much-maligned Dirge of Cerberus in the Intergrade DLC. Ahead of Rebirth's release on February 29, the 2005 movie Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children briefly returned to theaters for a special showing. Hamaguchi has said that the next game's script is still in development, so plenty can change. However, he does tease still more potential additions from Compilation. "So while I can't comment on the sort of exact contents of the third title now, of course, whenever we present characters that have originally appealed and appeared in a Compilation title for Final Fantasy VII, we've seen very positive feedback. Fans are very delighted to see some of the characters from the Compilation of Final Fantasy VII titles that they have really loved and enjoyed. So I hope that we can continue to touch on these. But at the time, in terms of the storyline, nothing is set in stone," Hamaguchi says. Source

I personally don’t mind the multiverse stuff, although I’m still withholding full judgement until after part 3. I will say I think chapter 13 was a complete masterclass. The flashback/trial scenes were an amazing touch, and I really loved that we got more into the Cetra/Gi lore towards the end of the temple. Wish we got more time to explore the forest and the forgotten capital/city in chapter 14, but I guess we’ll be back there in part 3. On another note, it was pretty fucking wild that we already got to fight Bizarro Sephiroth tho lmao. I’m glad they didn’t reveal Safer Sephiroth at least. Also no extra scene after the credits is a crime.

Few reasons for this... 1) PS4 vs PS5 install base. 2) Remake launched when lockdowns were widely becoming a thing in the west. If you were a gamer the two big releases at the time were Remake and Animal Crossing. 3) On some charts Rebirth and the Remake/Rebirth twinpack are being listed as seperate titles - with one of them having Rebirth listed at #2 and the twinpack at #8. Anecdotally, I know of(through a streamer's discord community I'm a part of) at least 3 people that would love to play Rebirth, but the import costs near double the price of the PS5, making it prohibitive to buy it. Tack on this and exclusivity being just 3 months(Remake came to PC a week after the extended exclusivity from Intermission was over) and tons of people are content to just wait for a PC release.

"its not multiple universes!, just... multiple worlds...with a different timeline...with different versions of the people we lknow... but it's all inside the planet and the lifestream, so not multiverses" It is multiverses. Yeah, all of these worlds seem to be within the lifestream, but it could be that the life stream "transcends" time and space. Also, while I agree that Zack and biggs could not know time because they are dead, makes sense, still doesn't fully explain it. Ellmyra and marlene are certainly not tdead and they are there. Also we see the whispers saving zack at the end of remake... It would be very different if we see Zack die, and then the whispers poick him up or something. In any case I'm annoyed at the ending and how badly they did one of the most iconic scenes of all time. And it would have been so easy to make it right: -Make it happen the same way as the OG. Sephiroth comes and Kills Aerith. -Or...don't sahow Sephiroth killing Aeirth. Show Cloud saving her, just that, and at the end everyone is mourning her except cloud and you got WTF and then it sinks in. Instead they did this weird "he saved her he didn't but he did" that's njust confusing. In the end I think I understand what happened, but the way they handled it made it lost all impact. As for why Rebirrth is selling less than remake: -Remake ius a good game, but nothing remarkable, so people are more weary and didn't rush to buy Rebirth (which is much better) . -See spoiler comment. All the weird ass sheningans from Remake and Rebitirth push people away. Specially when you factor in that if you took all those things out... the game wouldn't be that much different. -The marketing was bad. I said this before in this thread but instead of focusing on showing how this is one of the biggest games I've seen, with one of the most epic stories, they just show Sephiroth Hugging Cloud lovingly, Aerith Signing a Musical. Some Weirdoes doing weird things in the casino, Hojo Laughing like a kid show villian. "gangsters" dressed in yellow and green suits acting like fools.. etc. If I didn't know anything about the game, it would be so offputting... you can have those things in the game, some of them were in the original even, but don't focus on the on the trailers, seriously. -Last but not least, the lower ps5 owenership. But yeah I don't think the way they are handling the story, and the weird marketing is doing them any favours. Still, from what I undersand, the game is not a flop or anything like that. But when you consider OG FF7 is one of the best games of all time, and one of the most beloved... FF7 remake project should have made records...and it failed.
