I always wonder what would have happened sales wise if they had stuck to do a 1:1 remake to the old one. How many newbies would have jumped on it

Everything would feel so rushed on a 1:1 given the current state of gaming.

I am not sure so many want open world games. Indies are booming like crazy and the have short stories and gameplays but very refined ones like ff7 used to be

I am personally waiting for the third game to be done before considering if I will play it at all (never did finish original FF7 the only time I started it). By that point we probably have an improved version of the first game introduced to make the trilogy stick together in a better way. Or perhaps some basic graphic upgrades for a double dip in re-makes.

I will also agree that it being open world is a negative. Though it doesn't seem to be insanely long, with around 40h for the main stories in normal play.

Well, they already did that with Intergrade, which fixed the texture loading issues that were caused by the PS4 being slow(sadly can't do anything about the UE4 texture loading issues) and added more effects like fog here and there.

It is multiverses. Yeah, all of these worlds seem to be within the lifestream, but it could be that the life stream "transcends" time and space.

Also, while I agree that Zack and biggs could not know time because they are dead, makes sense, still doesn't fully explain it. Ellmyra and marlene are certainly not tdead and they are there. Also we see the whispers saving zack at the end of remake... It would be very different if we see Zack die, and then the whispers poick him up or something.

In any case I'm annoyed at the ending and how badly they did one of the most iconic scenes of all time. And it would have been so easy to make it right:

-Make it happen the same way as the OG. Sephiroth comes and Kills Aerith.

-Or...don't sahow Sephiroth killing Aeirth. Show Cloud saving her, just that, and at the end everyone is mourning her except cloud and you got WTF and then it sinks in.


Instead they did this weird "he saved her he didn't but he did" that's njust confusing. In the end I think I understand what happened, but the way they handled it made it lost all impact.




As for why Rebirrth is selling less than remake:

-Remake ius a good game, but nothing remarkable, so people are more weary and didn't rush to buy Rebirth (which is much better)

-See spoiler comment. All the weird ass sheningans from Remake and Rebitirth push people away. Specially when you factor in that if you took all those things out... the game wouldn't be that much different.

-The marketing was bad. I said this before in this thread but instead of focusing on showing how this is one of the biggest games I've seen, with one of the most epic stories, they just show Sephiroth Hugging Cloud lovingly, Aerith Signing a Musical. Some Weirdoes doing weird things in the casino, Hojo Laughing like a kid show villian. "gangsters" dressed in yellow and green suits acting like fools.. etc. If I didn't know anything about the game, it would be so offputting... you can have those things in the game, some of them were in the original even, but don't focus on the on the trailers, seriously.

-Last but not least, the lower ps5 owenership.

But yeah I don't think the way they are handling the story, and the weird marketing is doing them any favours.

Still, from what I undersand, the game is not a flop or anything like that.

But when you consider OG FF7 is one of the best games of all time, and one of the most beloved... FF7 remake project should have made records...and it failed.

But everybody jumped for the conclusions they liked the most. I mostly loved the article from some expert how it sold half the amount of Remake while ignoring that Remake was sold at the end of the PS4 cycle with over 100m units sold... (and a COVID lockdown to it)

If they have the same turnaround as Remake(PC release about a week after Intergrade exclusivity expired) then we're about a month and a half until that player base getting a crack at it too.

I normally never care about things like game sales or the like. Ultimately games are just products in the marketplace and I think that in general, good games sell well. If a game is good it will review well and community word of mouth will be positive and then people will pick it up and the developer will be "rewarded" for their efforts and execution.

But I'm not going to lie; I was pretty bummed out by the developing narrative that Rebirth wasn't selling well.

I truly feel that Rebirth is an 11 out of 10 game, an all-time great, even putting aside my FF7 nostalgia and predisposition to like Rebirth I thought it was a shame that people were holding off on experiencing the masterpiece that Rebirth is, so I'm happy to see the narrative start to turn positive because I want the devs (not Square-Enix, but the actual production staff) feel proud for what they accomplished with Rebirth and be energized to make Game 3 just as outstanding as Rebirth.

They also said FF16 wasn't selling well and it sold pretty damn well., I think SQEX just wants a game to magically do a billion and the way they handle franchises, it'll never happen. I'm glad to see Rebirth and FF16 doing well. I don't want them to overdo it, but they need to find a way to keep games that are generally well received, producing.
Now I don't know what form FF17 will take, but I wouldn't be surprised if they tried to live service it. I hope not, but I have no faith in them. The devs? CB3 and the like have my vote of confidence. The suits? Not so much.

Did they overhaul the combat in part 2?
I'm towards the end of part 1 (just before Shinra tower) but the combat system is so... BLEH... I have trouble motivating me to complete it. Give me pure atb/round based or give me actual action, these weird hybrids are and will allways be bullshit. It's not that it's too hard (Iirc I died like once in the whole game), it just feels terrible to play.

On top of that Midgard imho was also the worst part of the original. Stretching it with side quests and so on doesn't exactly help it's cause.

They added Synergy Skills that give you fun/cool things to do when you don't have ATB, but balance it by lowering their damage in a combat if you spam them.

Spending ATB provides a resource that can be used for Synergy Abilities, which function like Chrono Trigger's Dual Techs- which also provide additional effects like increasing your limit level, temporary infinite MP, Refocus, etc.

Air combat is much nice for melee characters as soon as they can get into the air, though some like Red are pretty land bound.

I don't know if those improvements will "solve" your issues, but there you go.

Just finished my first Rebirth playthrough this week. Was playing since release day, ended up with 177 hours and still quite a lot of stuff to do, unfinished quests etc...And I stil didn't even start with hard mode! It's insane how much this game has to offer. I probably have close to 400 hours total including Remake and DLC and I still feel like the combat has a lot of depth that I could explore. The amount of love and attention to detail put into this game is just mind-boggling. IMO Rebirth is the real FF7 Remake I was waiting for. The first part in retrospect feels like a demo compared to Rebirth now. Very likely one of the greatest games ever made.

It always pleases me to hear that I finished it after over 250hrs, 100% the game. Hard mode seems incredibly daunting, but I will do it some day. But before I do that I really want to just do another run through my current file on NG+ and break the combat, some of the stuff I've seen is pretty nuts!
