It just is kinda meh when 2 of the best players in the world meet in the first round That's maybe just me, but Life vs Innovation shouldn't really be possible before the semis (maybe even finals)

Like yeh rivalries are cool.but they shouldn't be forced upon us by making the rivals meet in r1 , then all the hype fizzles when one of them is knocked out.

The bracket is so stacked it doesn't even matter, if the other participants were players like Pet, eMotion, Center and so on then I would agree. The other players are the likes of Maru, herO, Cure, Zest, Rain, Dark, Solar and Bbyong. The ranking of these players are pretty subjective to say the least. Best of Inno, herO and Maru is really impossible to say at the moment. Seeding players of this caliber would just be waaay too subjective, they are basically championlevel all of them.

Just ask X "experts" to rank them 1-16, give points for each place and look at the end results. I think it would be pretty good. In a perfect world the wcs ranking would be exactly that.

We should test this theory here. Try and pick ten members who you have seen show little to no bias and ask them to rank the players if they have time. Hopefully a few will do so and we will get to see how similar the rankings are. I'm definitely curious how this would turn out. Hopefully it won't be like the NCAA where the SEC has so much clout.

That would solve the seeding problem and players wouldn't have to fly to the other side of the world for one bo5. I think even a losers' bracket would be acceptable at this level... No reason has been given, but it was the same last year in Katowice. Before 2014, when the final event was in Hanover at CeBIT they had 5 days to work with but last year it was only 3 and now it is 4 days. Although, in Hanover they've had 24 players while in Katowice there are 16. The amount of time affects the format they can use, but 4 days with 16 players would normally be enough to have a group stage. However, I think they want to broadcast every single match, which limits the options quite a bit, but still there should be room for one group stage played in two days. I guess they just like the single elimination format, which is very easy to follow and makes each match exciting as someone is always about to drop out. Still, single elimination is fine for finding a single champion like last year (winner takes it all), but it does not accurately rank the players in spots 2-16. Sure, neither would a single elimination with 8 players after a group stage, but groups+playoffs would still produce a more precise final ranking. Not to mention the "bracket luck" the straight playoffs includes. Anyway, ESL has its reasons but some words from them to explain the thinking behind the format would be nice. The 2014 tournament was special as it was the "one time only" winner takes it all tournament, and as the upcoming event does pay out to the all 16 players, apparently they still adopted the format from the special case. Here is a quote from Carmac from last year: Every season the IEM was one of the hardest tournaments to win all year. In 2014 we would like to take it to a new level of extreme. True champions are born when they express their talent in the most extreme situations. We wanted to create the most high-pressure tournament this audience has ever seen.

Ok so i actually wanna try this. Anybody who thinks he knows enough about this can pm me with the list. Rank the players from 1-16. First will get 16 points, etc. If there are enough lists (i will do one too) i will post the end results in this thread as well.
