Weapon skins used to drop similar to how cases dropped, but Valve has kind of changed it to a reward for completing missions. So now, once you complete those missions, you can't even get those drops, making them rarer. You still get weapon drops (although I don't pay attention which collection they're from) but I don't think they're from collections that have really rare skins. Some of those collections are also discontinued, making them even rarer, like the glock fade.
Other rare guns include the m4a1-s masterpeice from the overpass collection.

I don't see any missions available...is that the Operation Vanguard stuff? You pay into it and can unlock things playing on certain maps?

You have to pay into Operation Vanguard to be able to complete missions yes. You can still get skin drops, although I haven't gotten anything remotely valuable since operation Phoenix this way (before missions existed).

and the operation ends tomorrow so it may not be worth it to buy the operation for the missions unless you want the operation coin

Probably with the exception of the Howl, which was discontinued when Valve found that it was made from copyrighted designs. It's only available on the marketplace now

Valve announced earlier today that operation vanguard has been extended until the end of march. Additionally, the cost of the operation has been reduced by half and is available until the end of the week. At the end of the week though you can no longer get access. Operation passes purchased will get access to all missions they'd have had available if they had owned the operation since it began.

this was kinda expected in a way, it sucked that you couldn't actually complete all of the missions in the alloted time

At least I don't have these 21 hour waits after every 2 games anymore... Someone made that rank distribution http://i.imgur.com/wKTApws.png according to a poll on reddit 9 months ago.
According to that, Gold Nova I is in the bottom 15%, but thats very much expected if you just started playing. Overall, ranks don't have as much meaning as they have in other games (especially at the higher ranks), so I would rather just focus on improving rather than looking too much at your rank.

I wouldn't believe the numbers for the lower half of the leagues. The people that browse the cs:go reddit are more likely to be good or at least spend a lot of time with the game.

IIRC, when valve did a talk about music being used in their games (it was one of the dev talks), they were talking about the correlations between ranks and music, and the dev who was talking slipped that nova 3 was the 50% percentile of the distribution of ranks (assuming a normalized curve). so if you're at nova 1, you're just a bit under the average counter strike player. Now, do note that there are a lot of smurfs at that rank becuase the top tier ranks are plagued with cheaters so it's not a bad rank as you might think. Of course, you can always improve and there are many resources to do so, so there's plenty of opportunity for you and for all of us to get better.

no clue, never heard of anyone being called a "ctrl player" before.

Maybe he meant control = camp somewhere.

I guess he complains about crouch spam. People often like to complain about annoying mechanics like adad/crouch spam.

How do I reduce the sound of just guns? I can't hear footsteps unless I turn my sound up to triple what I normally have, which makes gun sounds deafening.
|
I don't think you can. Perhaps the problem is whatever you are using for sound has poor frequency response. Or perhaps it is your own ears that is at fault.

Try this. It's relatively old thread so not sure if it works.
Keep note of what the default values are in case you want to change it back.
edit: looks like some of the stuff got patched. not sure exactly which, except that the ambient one definitely got patched and prevented lol.

Make sure you have the in-game volume up as loud as you can and then lower the volume on your other knobs (either software or hardware). This makes the footsteps sound the best.
I've tried other stuff in my cfg files too but this would fix it for most people that haven't already made sure of this.
