The 'Garimto' Award for Player of the Year; Bisu. 2 MSL wins, 3rd place OSL, 2nd place MSL. Enough said.
The 'Mumyung' Award for Worst Player I haven't watched any games involving really subpar players, so I'll just go with statistics and say Clon.
The 'Boxer' Creativity/Inspiration Award Since this is the Boxer award, I'll go with Upmagic since he's been showing a creative gameplay style in important matches.
The 'Chojja' Missing in Action Award Goodfriend. Where is this guy?
The Team of the Year Award Lecaf Oz. Consistent proleague performance throughout the year allows them to easily win this award.
The 'WTF!' Moment of the Year Award Bisu 3-0 Savior. Sure, maybe a few people thought Bisu could win, but nobody in their right mind would've predicted a completely dominating 3-0 from Bisu in that series.
Game of the Year There's too many. Only a top 10 would do this justice. Also, a lot of the time recent games that are still fresh in our memory stand out a bit more than older top games.
The 'Sea' Best Newcomer Award; Flash the wonderkid. Although he might've been a bit overhyped initially, he's still a solid player that KTF can depend on.
The 'rA' Award for Proleague Performances Either Stork or Anytime, but since Stork did pretty decently in individual leagues as well, Anytime deserves this award more.
The Most Improved Jaedong? He was always a ZvZ and ZvT monster, but he has shown massive improvement in ZvP against Stork. Although we'll still have to see if it was a real improvement or just a one-time fluke.

These awards should reflect the entire year rather than just the past few months, which many people's choices so far don't seem to recognize.
The 'Garimto' Award for Player of the Year;
I would give this to Bisu. He made more finals appearances than any other player this year at three and won two of those three. He also has a third place finish and a round of right finish. He got to the quarterfinals in five of the six leagues of the year. he didn't qualify for the sixth and the qualification season was during the previous year. that means any time when league qualification was on the line, he pulled through (though that was only twice). he is not as dominant as players in the past who have won this award, but his strength has really only been put into doubt/question recently here at team liquid. For an overall look at this year, it's difficult not to see Bisu as a hot item.
The 'Mumyung' Award for Worst Player
I will give this to Jangbi. Samsung keeps sending him out in proleague, but he rarely ever wins. At least Clon can lay claim to 2v2 victories, but not Jangbi. As a newer player who does well during practice, he has not shown much power on screen. When he makes it into the leagues he only barely manages to and then falls right out of them in the group stage, much like the Mumyung of old. sure, he may have been runner up for the Star256 tournament (which a lot of your surely haven't heard of), but being runner up is still not a win. No other player this year reminds me of the Mumyung of past more than Jangbi. I also want to be sure to give this award to a player that people have at least heard of.
The 'Boxer' Creativity/Inspiration Award
Upmagic, for his unique approach and non-standard play. For a player who does not rely on standard builds, he is able to blend non standard game options and turn them into more standard builds at just the right time in games. He gets further into starleagues this year than other creative players and is one of eStro's Aces to boot. The only other player I would honestly consider this for would be Boxer, but UpMagic has shown better results.
The 'Chojja' Missing in Action Award
Kingdom. He has a total of six televised matches this year. He has not qualified for a starleague, only gotten out of preliminaries once, and is a rare appearance for SKT in Proleague. People who are suggesting players like Goodfriend, Yellow and Chojja forget that these players all had many appearances in the first round of proleague this year and it wasn't until the second part of the year that they disappeared. Kingdom has been missing in action the whole year with only a few appearances and none of them near to each other.
The Team of the Year Award
Lecaf Oz. They made it to the finals of the first proleague season, and will finish in first going into this season's playoffs. That locks them for a finals appearances in both seasons of the year. Additionally a member of the Lecaf team has taken an OSL title this year: Jaedong. No other team can boast a more impressive overall performance.
The 'WTF!' Moment of the Year Award
Bisu defeating Savior 3-0 in GomTV MSL Finals. Savior was an extreme favorite, having stamped out every other protoss opposition in the past and this (at the time) nobody Bisu comes out of nowhere to snatch a Starleague title right from under Savior's nose. Everyone was surprised at the result of those finals; and if you say you aren't you are either lying or at the time you were mentally insane.
Game of the Year
Savior vs. Iris on Neo Arkanoid, Shinhan 3 OSL, Semifinals, Game 5. With nearly everything on the line, a finals appearance that would likely have been a win for either player, both Savior and Iris played at top form. Not only was this one of the most exciting games of the year, it was between two high-profile teammates, it was in a match with high stakes, the finals of a best of five match, and had the audience on their toes nearly the entire time. Nothing about this game is anything but spectacular.
and the new ones are....
The 'Sea' Best Newcomer Award;
Mind. Most of the other players that can be considered for this category were somewhat known in the proscene prior to this year. Not Mind, if you know who mind was prior to 2007, then it wasn't because you were paying attention to starleagues or proleague. Before this year Mind was a third string player, but now he is worthy of a starting lineup. he came out and took the title in his first starleague appearance and was at least partially responsible for WeMade turning itself around and nearly earning a playoff spot for the second half of the Proleague this year. Flash is a very close runner up for basically the same reasons. Actually I am changing my mind to Flash. he qualified for four starleagues this year, and made it to the quarterfinals of his first OSL. In addition he has been a solid performer in Proleague and looks to have a lot of promise in the future. He literally had not played televised before this year and has shown that he can be a force to be reckoned with.
The 'rA' Award for Proleague Performances
Anytime. with three matches left in the season he is only one game behind free's record of 17 wins last season, a season which he was not far behind in total wins. In the two combined seasons Anytime has time and time again been sent out as the team's Ace. Out of all the times he is sent out for the Closer match, he has only fallen once, against UpMagic in the first season. Anytime pulls the Lecaf team in proleague. No other player matches Anytime's win total this year, at an impressive 30.
The Most Improved
Stork. he had less than a 50% win record for 2006, and he stormed into this year looking like the player that Boxer might have predicted as a next big thing. with more than twice as many game wins as losses this year Stork has made it to both an MSL and OSL finals. he cometed in five of the year's six leagues. He led his team to victory in the first season of proleague and was Samsung's main Ace for both seasons. He overtook the #1 Kespa rank for a month. To top it off he had a finals appearance in WCG Korea and went on to win the Grand Finals in Seattle. Stork wasn't spectacular prior to 2007, but it's difficult not to notice his presence and improvement throughout the year.
edit: I don't see how Jaedong can be considered for best newcomer as he was busy getting an MVP in last year's proleague.
+ Show Spoiler [Who I see as possible contenders for e…] +Garimto Award: 1. Bisu 2. Stork 3. Savior
Mumyung Award: 1. Jangbi 2. Casy 3. Justin
Boxer Award: 1. Upmagic 2. Boxer 3. Silver
Chojja Award: 1. Kingdom 2. Jju 3. Zergman
Team of the Year Award: 1. Lecaf OZ 2. CJ Entus 3. MBCGame HERO
WTF Moment Award: 1. Bisu 3-0 Savior GomTV MSL 2. FBH ceremony 3. Iris blind expo in Semifinal Game 5 Shinhan 3 MSL
Game of the Year Award: 1. Savior v Iris on Neo Arkanoid, Shinhan 3 OSL, Semifinals, Game 5 2. Savior v Firebathero on Python, GomTV2 MSL, Quarterfinals, Game 1 3. Stork v Bisu on Loki, GomTV2 MSL, Finals, Game 5
Sea Award: 1. Mind 2. Flash 3. No one else can have as strong an argument as these two
Nal_rA Award: 1. Anytime 2. Sea 3. Stork
Most Improved Award: Could relly go to a lot of players. Stork, Hwasin, Bisu, Jaedong, Firebathero, Iris and many other have a solid case for this category.

The 'Garimto' Award for Player of the Year; bisu, obviously, from season 1 until mind the year was all him, with the exception of a couple mm allins.
The 'Mumyung' Award for Worst Player justin(if we arent counting 2v2). an ongoing 13 game loss streak, as soon as they fixed the mappool he stopped winning. also just as disliked as mumyung
The 'Boxer' Creativity/Inspiration Award upmagic. people have been begging for a non-standard terran since boxer went to the air force. here he is.
The 'Chojja' Missing in Action Award jju. he was never dominating and not very well liked, but he was pretty successful in 06, a consistent good performer in both starleagues. then in 07 he dropped off the face of the earth, lost in survivor and odt and never came back. doesnt even play proleague for a team that would be incredibly hard to beat if they had another consistent 1v1er.
The Team of the Year Award CJ. constantly turning out great individual league performances(4 of top 8 in gom2?) as well as solid proleague records. unlike samsung and lecaf they dont rely on 2 players to carry them through proleague, which works but doesnt make for an overall best team.
The 'WTF!' Moment of the Year Award bisu beating savior in gom1. a nobody toss, came out of nowhere, everyone counted him out. goes on vacation for a week before the match. 3-0s the best zvp ever with ease.
Game of the Year hard to say having not watched all of them. savior vs iris on arkanoid is a good bet. showcased savior's zvt dominance perfectly, right before his downfall. was also a wtf moment for iris. before that he was cast as a solid tvt/tvp player who would never succeed and couldnt tvz for his life. that certainly changed quick.
The 'Sea' Best Newcomer Award; mind certainly turned the most heads, dont know if hes the best. flash would probably be the best. hes worked off the (unfair) title of cheese newb with a string of straight up wins on good opponents to go with his 4th place osl at the age of what.. 15?
The 'rA' Award for Proleague Performances stork. sea and anytime have had consistant strong performances, as well as a few others, but so has stork, and stork is the one who got the season 1 title.
The Most Improved hwasin. a mediocre one matchup wonder in late 2006 turned into the 2nd best player in the world in 2007. had his peak not coincided with bisu's hed have at least one starleague right now.

Clon's actually a better player than the statistics make him out to be. No, the real candidate for this award is Justin, with his 9-22 record in 2007 and current 13-game losing streak.
that's true in 1v1, but you have to admit he has a lot of skills (along with a nice winning record) in 2v2, though. so i wouldn't say that justin would be the best candidate for the Mumyung award.

Just voting on the ones I have opinions about....
The 'Garimto' Award for Player of the Year; + Show Spoiler +Bisu. He's had the most success in the starleagues, and I think that's what should matter most for this award. Honorable mentions: Stork 68% overall win percentage, WCG title, multiple 2nd and 3rd place finishes; Jaedong 64% overall win percentage, OSL title; Sea[Shield] 67% overall win percentage. The 'Mumyung' Award for Worst Player + Show Spoiler +ChRh. He's 1-5 for 2007 for a miserable 16.67%. Although there are statistically worse players for 2007 (amazing they have jobs, eh?), I chose ChRh because his only win this year came against the player I picked for the Garimto award: Bisu. So not only does ChRh suck, but he doesn't even suck reliably... damaging people's liquidbet scores when he has no business winning. The 'Boxer' Creativity/Inspiration Award + Show Spoiler +Silver. For his imbalance-fixing strat on Monty Hall, as seen here. The Team of the Year Award + Show Spoiler +MBCGame HERO. They've been incredibly successful this year. The 'WTF!' Moment of the Year Award + Show Spoiler +Firebathero. For his dance after beating Savior. Game of the Year + Show Spoiler +Firebathero v Savior, Game 1, Python, GOMTV MSL S2. Firebathero had absolutely no business winning that game. And yet, he did. Watch it is you don't remember it. The 'Sea' Best Newcomer Award; + Show Spoiler +Flash. Not only did he have a breakout year in 2007 that had folk talking about him, whether they loved him or hated him. I think this was actually his first year as a pro, making him an actual newcomer. The 'rA' Award for Proleague Performances + Show Spoiler +Stork. He's had the most success this year in proleague, imo. Honorable mentions go to Sea[Shield] and Anytime, for their stellar performances.

The 'Garimto' Award for Player of the Year This cannot be challanged, there is one candidate only. That is Bisu, winning 2 golds out of 3 MSLs and taking the silver in the 3rd, and scoring a bronze in the OSL puts him ahead of evreyone this year. He proved himself in evrey Match up, and Bonjwa in PvZ. Decimating a Bonjwa in his best MU out of nowhere is just a plus, just as revolutionizing an entire MU. If Stork actually won Season 2 and won this OSL their roles would be reversed.
The 'Mumyung' Award for Worst Player The stats speak for themselves
The 'Boxer' Creativity/Inspiration Award I would say Upmagic is the best candidate for this one, who showed us some inspirational creative play this year, very similar to Boxer, He could be called Boxer's Heir. If Upmagic cannot take it, then give it to Boxer. Or you gotta give props to Oversky's Proxy hatch vs Freedom, that was Rapetastic.
The 'Chojja' Missing in Action Award Hey there cheerleader or just half of KTF
The Team of the Year Award Lecaf showed some pretty amazing play this year, Jaedong and Anytime hold up the team pretty well.
The 'WTF!' Moment of the Year Award Mind coming out of nowhere, raping Oov, Savior and Bisu and winning the MSL.Or Bisu beating Savior 3-0 in GOMTV1
Game of the Year Savior vs Iris Game 5 on Araknoid was the best game ever played this year, so epic, so intense, amazing game.
The 'Sea' Best Newcomer Award You can make a case for both Mind and Jaedong, but I would vote for Mind just for the simplicity, of raping evreyone in his way in the MSL without anyone expecting it.
The 'rA' Award for Proleague Performances Stork showed some amazing PL play this year, through all the seasons.
The Most Improved Stork turned from another Protoss player, to the first protoss player ever ranked #1 in Kespa. He showed some amazing play this year, holding pretty well in all of the 3 leagues, the OSL, MSL,and PL. With a 68% average winrate this year, 75% in PvT,54% in Pvz, and 70% in PvP he is arguably statistically the best P this year, or even all time.

The 'Garimto' Award for Player of the Year; Bisu - no contest
The 'Mumyung' Award for Worst Player Casy Casy went from semifinals in the OSL in the beginning of the year to being absolutely terrible.
The 'Boxer' Creativity/Inspiration Award Upmagic - his nonstandard builds work more often than you'd expect and are fun to watch unfold
The 'Chojja' Missing in Action Award Kingdom - too bad about his arm
The Team of the Year Award Based on players on team - CJ Based on proleague - lecaf
The 'WTF!' Moment of the Year Award Bisu 3-0 savior in gom msl 1
Game of the Year Hwasin vs sAviOr - GOMTV MSL S1 Semifinal game 2 on desert fox In the end, Savior put a hatch in the center and used a nydus canal to have units in wait for when Hwasin mined his mineral only leading to the center
and the new ones are....
The 'Sea' Best Newcomer Award; Flash - good proleague, individual league results
The 'rA' Award for Proleague Performances Stork - higher winning percentage than Sea or Anytime, almost always used (and wins) as Ace
The Most Improved Stork - from being a punching bag in the beginning of the year to being probably the most consistent player overall in the end. The majority of his Z losses this year are from Savior, Jaedong, and GGplay.

The 'Garimto' Award for Player of the Year; Bisu. I dont think anyone can argue with this.
The 'Mumyung' Award for Worst Player So many... I will go with Casy since he has just been hard to watch
The 'Boxer' Creativity/Inspiration Award Going with the obvious choice of Upmagic.
The 'Chojja' Missing in Action Award I know he has been gone awhile... yellow
The Team of the Year Award CJ. Their up and coming squad is impressive and their vets are solid.
The 'WTF!' Moment of the Year Award Mind beating Bisu. Like 5 people predicted that and 4 of them were lying to themselves.
Game of the Year I still have to go with MSL Game 5 Bisu v Stork. Mostly because of the stakes and the overall quality of play. Though the recent match between Bisu and GGplay was very quality.
The 'Sea' Best Newcomer Award; Jaedong hands down. Best ZvT and ZvZ at the moment. Flash is good but Jaedong has dominance potential into 2008.
The 'rA' Award for Proleague Performances I'm going to go with Sea for being steady throughout the year.
The Most Improved I'm going with the out of no where vote with Yarnc. I wrote him off awhile ago but his play lately espeically zvz has been really impressive. I know a lot of people say Stork but I feel he just wasnt playing up to his potential which is somewhat different from improving. I would say Hwasin but he has been playing less than spectacular since his last MSL loss to Bisu in my opinion.
|
edit: I don't see how Jaedong can be considered for best newcomer as he was busy getting an MVP in last year's proleague.
I think its because he had his first MSL/OSL appearances recently (royal roading OSL)
|
The 'Garimto' Award for Player of the Year; Bisu hands no need to explain top player for 2007 been in 3 finals winning 2 and 3rd place for osl
The 'Mumyung' Award for Worst Player Dont know
The 'Boxer' Creativity/Inspiration Award Silver for his zvt build for monty hall other than that boxer his proleague games had some fun builds like 4 vult drop against zerg, biomech against terran. Up to for his fast +1 armor biomech build
The 'Chojja' Missing in Action Award Goodfriend i havent seen him at all literally and midas
The Team of the Year Award Dont know probably lecaf
The 'WTF!' Moment of the Year Award savior losing 3-0 to bisu and mind winning msl
Game of the Year Iris vs savior game 5 on arkanoid just plain back and forth action everytime savior dark swarms iris just runs around it
The 'Sea' Best Newcomer Award; haran? He seems to have potential very good zvt and flash
The 'rA' Award for Proleague Performances Sea known to dominate proleague just hasnt done much in osl/msl and anytime
The Most Improved Hwasin hwasin hwasin. He really improved alot. Around where he won wcg qualifiers. Also when he won stx cup when stx was down 1-3 he won all 3 games to make it 4-3 knocking out bisu. Beating savior and stork.

The 'Boxer' Creativity/Inspiration Award should go to Bisu for his awesome pvz build that has completely changed how PvZ is played.
A lot of people say Upmagic but if you think about it even though he has so many builds he made himself, none have had any impact on the game itself, while Bisu's creativity actually will forever change the game. I suppose Upmagic is more creative, while Bisu is more inspirational.

bad luck jaedong was a newcomer back in 2006. chojja and goodfriend went missing back in september-ish, 9 months is a long time to play games.

I am displaying blatant bias here, but...
Player of the year
Either Bisu or Jaedong. But I think Bisu has been much more consistent throughout the year.
Missing in Action:
ForGG. I thought he'd be appearing in the proleague all the time, but he's just... disappeared.
Team of the year:
It's either CJ or MBC. Lecaf may be at the top of the table, but they are not a team. They are 2 good players and 1 rather good one. Both CJ and MBC have damned solid line ups. They can easily push out 5 to 7 players, each of which have about a 60% chance to win, and these players are a mix of old and new.
The most improved:
This has to be Xellos. For the past two years, he'd been playing so unbelievably badly that even if he won three games a year he'd win the most improved player award. Now he's suddenly a very, very strong player. There are others who are better than him, but nobody who's come from such a low level.
Actually, now I think about it, MIND is another super improved player this year. From nowhere to OSL winner. Zooming up 35 places in the KESPA rankings. Hmm...
