I'm so naive ! But they definitely should make an all-GSL finalists team !

Originally I was neutral towards Maru as well, when he was a mediocre player. Lets us travel back to the very beginning of SC2 and the legendary game of MKP vs Kyrix. With MKP you had a player who, in my opinion, played a dumb risky style with no longevity, but it was exciting as hell and introduced marine splits to the world. At the time I said it was exciting, but the way he played was not solid and would not last. So MKP went through his entire career finding one annoying play style after another that only works for a short time because it isn't figured out. Mass marine vs banes, marine/scv allins, that base trade crap he used to do, pure bio vs mech, mass thor/marine, and so on. I hate everything about his play style and I hate that he didn't disappear like the rest of the crap terrains from that era like BitByBit, Hyperdub, Maka, Ensnare, etc by constantly reinventing himself. I predicted he would disappear way back then and his continued presents in the scene annoys me greatly. Maru is a slightly more solid version of what MKP is and was but is still primarily the same sort of player who uses horrible styles that only work in the short term and wins entirely based on micro. That mass bio swarm with no ghosts or vikings vs protoss he was doing for awhile is such crap it is offensive. My hate for MKP expanded to ruin prime, creator, byun, Polt, Maru, etc. I fully admit my dislike of MKP and Maru is very subjective and largely based on petty reasons that should have no sway in more serious areas of thought. But with that said I believe in rooting for and against people in the scene. I have people I root for heavily and people I root against heavily, and people down a spectrum in between. MKP and Maru are just on the extreme rooting against side, with people like Flash on the extreme rooting for side. This post is long. I'm a fan of Flash's champion (albeit stubborn) mindset too, but to be fair, Maru isn't the one-trick pony that MKP is. I think it's funny that you are both making MKP out to be a "one trick pony" while in his ridiculous rant he talks about a large variety of styles that MKP used...
Those "variety of styles" can be lumped into the one-dimensional category of annoying micro tricks/exploits that he prefers to use which limits him. Another T player like this that comes to mind would be Fantasy, who loves microing units to death while foregoing strategy and macro.

IM was pretty close too with Mvp, Nestea, and Seed, plus a partnership with MC for a season of GSTL.

Whatever imo he brought variety to the game and amazing micro is cool. Maru's TvP in late 2013 wasn't the best strategy but it was damn exciting to watch given his micro. If you don't like it that's cool though to each their own.

This is truly a sad day in sc2

These days mark the end of an era, truly...
(To be precise, it's more about the symbol than about the skill of these players, which is, relatively speaking, clearly not at the same level than before..)

Oh yeah, I definitely remember that all-star IM roster with Mvp - NesTea - Seed - MC. Good old times !

very sad day to know this truely end of my era.

The thing is, their skill is actually the same as before. (except maybe for Nestea, who just got too old for the game)
Fact is these influx of BW pros and KeSPA investments increased the overall skill ceiling in KR, causing these guys to explore other opportunities.
Would be really funny though if someone from NA or EU wins it all at Blizzcon.

MKP was the best T in the last round of PL.

Those "annoying micro tricks" are pretty damn impressive and entertaining to watch, lol. I guess to someone who loves SC2 primarily for the strategy element, he wouldn't be interesting to watch. But I love the micro, and MKP has always been the best at it. Kind of like watching old Boxer vids... that stuff just gives me nerd chills.

MarineKing going to T1 makes the most sense for me. The team needs a terran, the dude needs good environment to fully develop

NOOOOO Wtf you can't do this to me twice MKP!!! Damn it.

I'm actually wondering if maybe the reason we're hearing about these big names leaving their teams is because they're going to GEM/duknow, and that GEM are going to up their game a little in terms of their active promotion.
I mean, think about it - Who, Starcraft wise, is on GEM already? MC, Scarlett, Tasteless, Artosis, Bomber, MVP (Already), Leenock, Moonglade, Nestea, WhiteRa.
Now where do they go from here? I'm guessing "Pick up not top talent, but players with brand equity" is a big thing for them.
All these players have that in spades. HUGE brand equity that can be turned into sponsor cash. And since GEM are agents, not sponsors themselves, they can leverage individual sponsorships and don't have to worry about competing sponsors since each player's portfolio can expand seperately.

MKG doesn't sounds as good as MKP though.

NOOOOOOOOOOooooooo

I don't really get what GEM does, even by looking at their website. Is it a sponsor ? A team ? Personal agents ?

Adios MKP! Wonder what's next for him.
