lol an organized attack on Nunez quoting the same message from different people, how pathetic are you guys ? Get on your feet . So funny.
@Cheerio. I've been living in EU for 15 years, what this has to do with my opinion ? If anything i see things with wider perspective then you, never leaving Kiev, and surounded by the same maidan ideology. My culture is my own, no suprise that i love russian culture, and this is my favoutrite culture of all, but as i said i got my own mix of things in my head, labeling it russian , mixed euro-russian, or budhist-russian-european or whatver wont change a thing that thing you say a so biased towards one end that you probably believe yourself. You jump to whatever side got the economic advantage at given point. Then question you should be asking why are u living in Ukraine ? Its situation hasn't changed since 1991, if anything it got worse. I dont take you seriously, but since its a forum and nothing said here will matter anyway i care to answer, because maybe some reason will still be able to get through all that maidan BS. Its a shame for me to listen "new Ukraininas" to blame russian people, because i got friends in both countrys and its creating unnecesary tension, you may consider them just people from another country, but know this, if you make such strong cultural attacks agains people of a country that is the clossest to ours, expend them to do the same, and please stop calling for help from EU, get your own mess sorted.
Anyone of you telling that association with EU will help Ukraine, care to show some comparison of exactly how is that archived, because i know and found is that this agreement were never good economically for Ukraine.

Are you getting paid in Ruble or in krones? Nunez is not looking like a paid anything. He is sourcing and arguing from something near a nordic left-wing platform. The left-wing in the nordic countries are relatively well-organized and likely mostly independent from Russian money. They share an ideological disgust of the way capitalism and especially the free market works, though it is not necessarily rooted in communism as the alternative and especially not the "authoritarian capitalism" Putin has build up. I see a lot about western hypocricy and media bias, some zero-sum geopolitical sphere rights being defended by Russia, but also how the real left wing in Ukraine has been caught between a russophile Ukrainian Communist Party and the aristocratic Party of Regions + the right wing. They are very self-conflicted on Russia and the separatists (They are as anti-war and as anti-corruption as you get!), but the clear and flaming antipathy towards right wing groups and their involvement in the current government in Kyiv is a big driving factor behind their views. Atleast here in Sweden the left is very much on Ukraine's side of the conflict. Russia, or rather the Russian government, is not very popular aside from the extreme right (because of Russia's nationalistic and anti-gay rights policies) to put it lightly.

I've been following this thread for a while, and I feel like you're attacking Cheerio just because he is pro-maidan AND Ukrainian. You're not responding to what he is saying, but to who he is...
I've never once heard him say that he speaks for all Ukrainians or that his is the "Ukrainian view point". I've never heard him make "strong cultural attacks" against Russians as you say.
As to calling to the EU for "help", many countries have done that and succeeded (uhhhh... most of E. Europe? Poland, czech, slovaks, estonia, latvia, lithuania, slovenia, and maybe I'm skipping somebody?). Yeah, Ukraine *is* different because of its' ties to Russia. Both culturally and politically it's harder for them to become a "European" country. But the fact is that at least 40% of the country was for EU-integration, while something like 20% was for Russian integration (the numbers aren't exact but definitely more are pro-EU than pro-Russia). Will EU integration flame out or back fire? Maybe, maybe not.. but that's the way the country is currently heading and we can't deny it.
As to the comments on nunez he just screams "junta, nazis, fascists" with little evidence or logic and just really really hates what's going on in Ukraine right now simply because it's pro-West. He's an idiot and he gets criticized for that accordingly.

Everything is an attack on Russia. From a Russian standpoint you could get the idea that Europe has annexed Crimea. It doesn't matter that the country is 50 times as large as Germany and has nuclear weapons stacked till the roof. Russia is on a giant guilt trip nowadays. The whole country is still stuck in a collective cold war trauma, and everything is a struggle between Russia and the rest of the world.
|
@nyxisto
I wouldn't call it a "guilt trip" (do Russians feel guilty for any of the Soviet crimes...), but I'm pretty sure we're on the same page. Russian culture was so steeped in the East-West divide during the cold war (and before also), that they can't accept the reality that they 'lost' and it's time to move on.
|
guilt trip in the sense that everyone else is supposed to feel guilty for what happens to Russia, so we're being sent on the guilt trip. Wrong wording, sorry : (

@radi i think the common theme of norweg political left (at least in media) is grief that we haven't taken a stance against the fascist and rotten elements of the maidan / now the junta and its militias (rødt, sv... more to the center of that and it's mostly 'vlad shaming'). i think rødt are the only ones who are critical of us / eu / imf involvement and not only russian. most ppl are getting in line with denounciation of russian military involvement in crimea, but one of the more nuanced views was presented by gjedde in frp... who in turn was critiqued by not only his own party members, but also sv. very surprising, but kudos to him.
i don't follow that closely, so take it with a bit of salt.
mark ames wrote a piece on putin at pando recently, thought it was an interesting read.
The fact that we, the US and EU and a few billionaires, funded violent regime change groups in bed with west Ukraine fascists and Russophobes has only made Putin’s domestic job easier. sums it up pretty neatly, and makes any chance of democratic progress very slim. all though he's missing the mark on who were killed in the odessa massacre. it's telling that russia is insisting on an international investigation, while the junta keeps spinning their propaganda machinery at full force. somebody's done goofed.
@greem it was obvious that you were expressing disbelief in his charicature of you. you're a victim of the dyslectic dialectic.

This is very disturbing that a nation-wide revolution against Yanukovich regime, that (the revolution) was supported according to polls by arround half of the population, is being discounted to the results of some "fascists" activity. This is like discounting the WW2 to just Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Sometimes I feel like if WW2 happened today, people would still blame US for it.
