Yesterday the US claimed that there is no movement of ships because of the Ukraine crisis, and that all movements follow their usual routines set months ago. This is, looking at the past weeks, the standard phrase for 'We are bringing everything in position' I'm sure all the nations involved had a sylvester party, in which they decided 'Hey let's all all move our whole military equipment to one place in the beginning of march, it will surely be fun to read, what the media makes out of it', that's why now all these plans existed for months and no changed needed to be made!

Remember, Crimea is in the Northern Caucasus, the area where Russia has been battling a ferocious Muslim insurgency.
Someone donate this CNN international expert a map.

The super-carrier USS George W. Bush plus seventeen other ships and three submarines passed through the Aegean sea this afternoon. The George W. Bush is carrying 90 aircraft and helicopters of various types, including several squadron's of F-22 Raptors, the most advanced combat aircraft in the world. The submarines each have twenty four missile silos, with each silo housing a missile armed with eight separate nuclear warheads which operate as MIRV's (Multiple Independent Re-Entry Vehicles) that can be independently targeted.
Since when did USN carriers house F-22s?

And how are you going to get a carrier into the Black Sea? Transport it by medivac? Sarcasm aside, the 6th fleet always rotates in the med with a standard escort, it's not particularly news. The Russians would no doubt have eyes on the carrier already (not that they can do anything about it).

Whats the problem of carrier going into Black sea? I dont believe Turkey will not let NATO ships through their straits.

thanks, didnt know that

Bosphorus is in some parts only 13m deep. The depth of the strait might be the problem (but i doubt that). Perhaps some people dont realize theres direct connection between aegan and black sea.

Turkey have already allowed US ships violating this convention to pass several times. They might very well do so again.

Turkey would probably be more than happy to have a flattop in there regardless of whatever treaty supposedly prohibits it. Problems getting into the Black Sea. That channel isn't particularly friendly for big ships to traverse through.

Well dunno, I ve seen big container ships at Bulgarian ports, but I guess carrier is much bigger than that.

Carriers are actually relatively small compared to the biggest containerships.

Carriers fit fine through there. Just last year In 2001 they shipped the one China bought from Ukraine through the strait.
