I`m not fan of our president, I dont like some his decisions. I voted for another person on last votes. But I very respect him for his politic position on world scene.

-Iraq 1991

With the sanctions and 2003 war, technically speaking, hostilities against Iraq never actually ended until the military withdrawal a couple years back.

The most sad thing for Ukrainians - they think Europe+states are their friends and helpers. But in fact Europe don`t need Ukraine economic and politic problems. Their help is only words+words+words + sure cookies by Victoria Nuland.

BEIJING — A Chinese spokeswoman says the country's military is prepared to respond to all provocations, ahead of the expected announcement of another big bump in defense spending.

Legislative spokeswoman Fu Ying said Tuesday that China supports resolving disputes through negotiations and the 2.3 million-member People's Liberation Army is for defensive purposes. However, Fu said the military was ready to make an "effective response" to protect the country's sovereignty and maintain regional security.

Fu's remarks come amid festering disputes between China and her neighbors over the control of islands and sea lanes in the East China and South China Seas.

China will announce its latest defense budget on Wednesday. Defense spending rose 10.7 percent last year to 720 billion yuan ($114 billion), the most for any nation apart from the U.S.

http://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/stories/E/EU_UKRAINE_PUTINS_CHOICE?SITE=AP&SECTION=HOME&TEMPLATE=DEFAULT&CTIME=2014-03-03-17-22-10

Since three months of protests, which included elements of Ukrainian nationalism, drove the Moscow-supported government out of Kiev, Russian state television has portrayed Ukraine as under threat from "fascists" supported by the West. If Putin were to back down now, Russians would see it as his failure.

Good thing you have President Putin to make all the complicated decisions for Russian people, no need to think too hard.

I doubt it has much to do with Russia. I just know China has serious problems with everyone else in the Far East, most especially Japan.

It's a response to the response of the US to Russian aggression.

Yesterdays stock market movements showed nicely who is the winner of this all. Markets down: Japan, Russia, Europe, US. Markets up: China.

well at least they are not sending "peacekeepers" in with the aim of ripping chunks of our land off to themselves. This is actually a lot by the current standards.

It seems more like it. With Japanese displaying new levels of stupidity by some "officials" denying things like Nanjing massacre ever happening , it is more likely just regional PR statement.

In an unsigned op-ed, China’s state-run Global Times declared this week that the “evolution of the Ukrainian situation shows us clearly that in the international political arena, principles are decided by power,” before calling the US a “doormat” in the situation. “Military power is one of the most vital sources of strength for any country, though nations also need other powers,” the editorial concluded said. “What is happening between Moscow and Kiev repeats that lesson.”

You might be reading too much into the market movements. China's stock market is still down 100 points from where it was Feb 19 and Nikkey is up from its Feb 5 lows, the Asian markets are probably doing their own thing..
